Does Metal Gear Solid Delta follow the same story as MGS 3?

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater is not just a simple visual upgrade. It is a careful effort to balance keeping the legacy of Metal Gear Solid 3 intact while also introducing this famous stealth action game to new players.

A big part of this effort revolves around the story. There is an understanding that you can’t just change Hideo Kojima’s vision and not expect the fans to be angry. Konami has respect for the source material and its goal to modernize the game in a way that keeps its core spirit alive.

Is the Metal Gear Solid Delta Story a Retelling of MGS3?

Essentially, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will retell the story of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. There will likely not be many changes to the main story.

One major clue that the story will stay faithful is the decision to reuse voice lines from the original Metal Gear Solid 3. This small but important detail shows how committed the development team is to keeping the emotional and narrative moments that players loved twenty years ago. Instead of bringing in new voice actors and interpretations, Konami is choosing to preserve the authenticity of the original performances.

This makes sure that longtime fans can relive those moments with the same nostalgia and connection they felt before. While the remake will include improved graphics and gameplay adjustments, the main narrative structure and character arcs seem to be staying mostly unchanged. The core story of Naked Snake’s mission to rescue a scientist, destroy the Shagohod, and face his former mentor, The Boss, appears to be the foundation of Metal Gear Solid Delta.

What Are the Differences Between the MGS3 and Delta Stories?

The main story of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater stays very close to the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Konami has focused on preserving the original game while updating the graphics and gameplay, without making major changes to the core experience. Konami wants to honor the “original creator,” which suggests they are careful not to stray too far from the original vision.

There are some important details to note. One clear change is the absence of the phrase “A Hideo Kojima Game,” meaning this version is not directly shaped by Kojima but by the team still at Konami. Another addition is persistent battle damage. While injuries were part of the original game, now they leave lasting scars that remain visible throughout the entire playthrough.

Konami is updating certain systems to feel more modern. The quick camouflage-changing feature has been adjusted but still works similarly to the original. The camera now sits over the shoulder, giving a more current viewpoint (unless you choose legacy controls). The health, stamina, and camouflage details have been repositioned on the HUD. The original voice lines are being reused, which reinforces how closely this remake sticks to the original story and characters.

The inclusion of a disclaimer at the start, meant to preserve historical context, is another strong sign of their commitment to accuracy. The biggest changes appear outside the main story. The new Fox Hunt multiplayer mode will likely offer a different kind of experience for players.

Depending on the console, there will be different Snake versus “insert character” mini-games that could slightly alter the gameplay. Ultimately, these additions are meant to increase replay value and provide new content alongside the classic story. This seems to be a remake that stays true to the original while also adapting to modern gaming expectations.

Will the Ending Change?

It is very unlikely that the ending of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater will be drastically different from the original Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. The lore of the series demands that the ending stay exactly the same.

The delta symbol in the game’s title may represent “change” or “difference” without changing the core structure, which suggests that any modifications will stay within certain boundaries. While there will be technical and visual upgrades, such as updated controls, camera angles, and improved graphics powered by Unreal Engine 5, these changes are meant to refine the gameplay without affecting the plot of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
