Marvel and Skydance New Media showcased the first trailer of Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra at Epic’s State of Unreal 2024. The game was first announced in 2022.
The trailer depicts a complex relationship between Black Panther and Captain America, who initially appear to be clashing against one another. I presume the beloved heroes will join forces later in the game to take down Hydra.
Marvel 1943 is a narrative-driven cinematic action game set during World War II. The project is helmed by former Uncharted writer-director Amy Hennig and is made in Unreal Engine 5, which is evident from the highly detailed and visually stunning world seen in the trailer. The score is composed by Grammy winner Stephen Barton, who has previously created background score for games like Titanfall, Apex Legends, and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
Hennig revealed that the trailer was put together using real-time scenes from the gameplay. She added that Marvel 1943 uses MetaHuman Animator, the same tech used by Ninja Theory in Hellblade 2. This tool helps developers achieve realistic facial expressions for more immersive performances.
Marvel 1943: Rise of Hydra offers fans of the comics an original story that will allow them to control four playable heroes at different points in the game. The main characters include a young Captain America, WWII Black Panther aka T’Challa’s grandfather Azzuri, a U.S. soldier named Gabriel Jones, and Nanali, a Wakandan spy.
Marvel 1943 will be released in 2025, although a specific date hasn’t been announced. The game is expected to be made available on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
