Mojang’s ambitious but commercially unsuccessful project, Minecraft Legends is well on its way to slowly fade away. While the game will continue existing (for the handful of gamers who actually enjoy this Minecraft-adjacent action-adventure strategy game), the developer has announced that it will stop active development.
The developer Mojang took it to Twitter today, to thank their fans and announce that it won’t be releasing any new content for Minecraft Legends. This means no Lost Legend updates or Marketplace DLCs in the future. The game, however, will remain fully functional.
The last-ever Lost Legend challenge for Minecraft Legends was released today. This challenge, named ‘Snow Vs Snout’ was initially announced in Oct 2023 at the last Minecraft Live but was delayed until now. Apart from the last update, Mojang is also offering one last freebie: Bright-Eyed Hero skin, that players can redeem from the Marketplace.
While the developer will no longer offer additional content, it will continue offering all the existing functionalities to players, including co-op play, as well as PvP features. Mojang has also announced that existing Lost Legends challenges will be made available to the players for free. And even though the active development for the game has stopped, Mojang will continue offering technical support and maintain Minecraft Legends servers to ensure gamers can enjoy the title to their fullest.
Minecraft Legends, the Minecraft spin-off project was developed by Mojang Studios in collaboration with Blackbird Interactive. It offered a great multiplayer experience – that got better over the time, thanks to multiple quality of life and gameplay updates by Mojang. However, despite mostly positive reviews, it failed to attract the desired player count, hence, only after nine months since its release, the developer has decided to stop working on additional content for the game.
