Mortal Kombat 1 is simultaneously a reboot and a sequel of the franchise. The announcement trailer introduced a reimagined version of the universe that had unfolded in prior games. MK1 is promised to include a “new fighting system, game modes, and fatalities”, along with a system that grants you a roster of Kameo fighting partners, who will aid you in fights. The inclusion of a distinct Kameo Fighters roster also opens up the possibility for beloved legacy characters to make a comeback in the new game.
Mortal Kombat 1 is slated to launch on September 19 for PC, PS5, Switch, and Xbox Series X.
