Leaks and rumors about Switch 2 have been a staple in video game news for the last couple of years. Today, a credible source reported that the Switch 2 will be smaller in size than the Steam Deck.
Spanish website Vandal reportedly got this information from manufacturers who “have had first contact with the Switch 2”. This falls in line with previous rumors that claimed the Switch 2 would get an 8-inch screen instead of the 7-inch and 6.2-inch displays on the Switch OLED and regular Switch, respectively.
These manufacturers also revealed that the new console would not feature the old rail-driven Joy-Con mechanism. Instead, the Switch 2 Joy-Cons would be “attached to the screen magnetically”. Therefore, the old Joy-Con won’t be compatible with the new console. However, the Switch 2 will support the Switch Pro controllers, the report noted.
Another rumor about the Switch successor indicates that the next-gen handheld might use an NVIDIA graphics processor based on the Ampere architecture seen in RTX 30 series chips. Furthermore, the console could feature DLSS for real-time ray tracing and upscaling.
While Nintendo hasn’t announced the Switch 2 yet, it is widely speculated that the new console could be announced in June 2024 to be released in Spring 2025.
