A new gameplay trailer for Pikmin 4 was released during the Nintendo Direct Showcase 2023. The extended trailer gave a detailed look at some of the returning characters, some new ones, as well as new quests and locations.
Pikmin 4 boasts a larger map with several new areas
The latest installment in the Pikmin series features a much larger map to explore. Players are tasked with repairing their spacecraft which has landed on a strange world, with the help of Pikmin and adorable rescue dog Otachi.
The trailer also confirmed a recent leak about the game that said it would feature an indoor location for the first time in the series. Players can, indeed, explore inside of a house. They can also collect various treasures with the help of their plant-like Pikmin friends to repair the radar of their spacecraft and unlock new areas to explore. One significant addition since the last installment is a underground world that can be explored to find more quests and battle alien creatures.
Pikmin 4 will feature night expeditions
The gameplay trailer for Pikmin 4 offered an in-depth look at the new night expeditions which can be undertaken by the players. Night expeditions were not a part of any of the series’ previous installments and they will offer a unique gameplay experience. All the creatures of the land apparently go berserk during the night. To circumvent this, players can now undertake risky exploratory activities with the help of Glow Pikmin, which is a new type of Pikmin being introduced in this game. These ghost-like glowing Pikmins only come out during the night.
The Pikmin 4 gameplay trailer reveals co-op play and Dandoori Battles
Another new element added in this installment is the Castaways. Players can find other spacemen who have crashed and rally them to the task of repair. With the help of castaways, players can engage in training sessions for Otachi, build new equipment and labs, or even fight.
A new in-game feature called Dandoori Battle was also revealed in the Pikmin 4 gameplay trailer. In this co-op mode, players can stand off against each other, utilizing their respective Otachis and Pikmin to gather the greatest number of collectibles before the time runs out.
Pikmin 4 will be released on July 21, 2023, for Nintendo Switch.
