It has only been a few days since Sony announced the newer and compact version of the PlayStation 5, and speculations about the next PlayStation console are beginning to surface. Although sporting the same older AMD architecture, the upcoming PlayStation 5 Pro is said to have performance upgrades and a huge boost in Tempest Engine performance.
The rumor comes in from RedGamingTech, who claims to have some information about the specifications of the upcoming console. It is being said that it will run on an eight-core Zen 2 CPU — the same as the current PS5. However, the newer CPU will run at clock speeds in the range of low 4GHz compared to 3.5GHz in the existing model.
The new console will be paired with RDNA 3 custom GPU with 60 compute units at 2500-2800MHz. It will also have a dedicated 2-4GB DDR5 RAM for the operating system, with 16GB DDR6 memory able to run at 18000MT/s. A big boost is expected in the performance of Tempest Engine, possibly with double the performance.
The Same Old Zen-2 CPU?
Apart from the above-mentioned source suggesting that the new PS5 model will be powered by the older Zen 2 architecture from AMD, a leaker named Kepler also pointed out the same.
Not only does this news come out as surprising, but it begs the question, with this CPU upgrade, is the PS5 Pro even worth it?

Many of the current titles are not able to fully utilize the powerful performance of the base PS5 model. All of the recent releases have been working smoothly on it. Coupled with the fact that some even run on the last-generation PS4, there is a doubt if a Pro version will be a worthwhile purchase for the users.
However, one upside for the leaked PS5 Pro is that it will be an upgrade where users will be consistently able to enjoy 60FPS on 4K resolution on less demanding titles.
