The sequel to Prison Architect 2 was originally planned to be released in March this year, but Double Eleven pushed it to May to deal with bugs. Today, the game’s publisher Paradox Interactive announced another delay.
In an official statement, Paradox revealed that Prison Architect 2 will now be released on September 3. The reason behind this decision seems to be technical issues, as the publisher wrote,
“While we currently have builds certified on all platforms and are ready to release, some issues regarding memory usage and minimum spec configurations experiencing more failures have emerged.”
The tests performed by the publisher on the final build reportedly led to crashes. The developers are now working on fixes. Paradox said,
“While we currently have a version of the game certified on all platforms and are ready to release, this new memory usage system will significantly improve the game experience.”
In a positive move, the publisher announced that console players who had pre-ordered the game would get their money back automatically. Meanwhile, Steam users would have to manually apply for a refund through Customer Support.
Recently, Paradox decided to refund Cities Skylines 2 players who bought the first DLC, because the expansion was “rushed out”. Further showcasing the same spirit for the Prison Architect 2 situation, the publisher wrote,
“Considering the legacy of Prison Architect, and you – our passionate community, we want to ship the best possible sequel to such a beloved game, without cutting corners to do so.”
Prison Architect 2 will release on September 3, 2024 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S.
