Rock Band 4 is being removed from all digital stores on October 5, 2025, a pretty somber announcement that unfortunately marks the end of an era for the rhythm game. This news comes from Harmonix producer Kyle Wynn on the official Rock Band Subreddit, who explained that the delisting is happening because the original licenses for the core soundtrack are expiring as the game hits its 10-year anniversary.
This is definitely a bummer for anyone who wanted to buy the game but hadn’t gotten around to it yet. I could sit here for hours writing about all the memories I had with the Rock Band games throughout the 2000s and 2010s. It really felt like everyone was playing this, and I remember so many times going over to friends’ houses and playing songs with a full band.
Rockband Is Getting Delisted on October 5

For a short time period, we really all felt like rock stars, and these are core memories that I will remember for the rest of my life. With everything else in life, though, all good things must come to an end, and this will certainly be the end of an era for a lot of people. I still play Rock Band 4 with a guitar every once in a while and will probably continue to play even as I get older.
Now, before you panic and rush to your console, there is some good news, especially if you already own the game or any of its extra songs. If you already own Rock Band 4, nothing changes; you’ll keep full access and can still download and play the game on any new, compatible devices like your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S. The delisting only applies to buying the game from the digital storefronts for the first time.
The same basic rule also applies to your downloadable content (DLC). Any DLC you’ve purchased will remain in your library, and you’ll still be able to download and play it. However, this is where things get a little more complicated for future purchases. DLC songs will start being pulled from the store as they hit their individual 10-year mark.
That means the oldest DLC, which was released around the game’s launch, will also start disappearing soon, while newer tracks might stick around for a few more years. For example, the last DLC was released in January 2024, meaning those songs should be safe until January 2034.

This makes perfect sense when you consider how music licensing works. Music licensing deals typically have a set duration, which for the core Rock Band 4 soundtrack was 10 years. Harmonix was simply not in a position to license the music forever, even if we all wish they could.
No More Licenses Means No More Rockband

It’s a reality of the rhythm game genre, and it’s why older games in the series are also no longer available digitally. Harmonix, now owned by Epic Games, has shifted its focus to Fortnite Festival, which is basically the spiritual successor and will support Rock Band 4 instruments.
So, if you’ve been putting off buying the game or picking up any last-minute songs you wanted, now is absolutely the time. The Rock Band 4 Rivals bundle is currently available on PlayStation and Xbox stores, so you can still grab the full experience for a decent price before the deadline. Considering the community support and deep DLC library the game has offered over the last decade, it’s a huge loss for the digital storefronts.
