Sonic Superstars, a brand-new Sonic the Hedgehog game was showcased during the Nintendo Direct Showcase. This upcoming game is a 2D side-scrolling adventure, featuring Sonic and his friends. The trailer for the game featured a couple of beautifully designed locations with the same old fast-paced gameplay featuring rings-obsessed Sonic.
Sonic Superstars to feature a local co-op mode
The game will feature a local co-op mode that supports up to four players, something that has never been done in Sonic the Hedgehog games before. Nintendo is yet to declare an official release date. However, they have stated that the game will launch in the fall of 2023.
Sonic Superstars will include 12 new stages for the players to explore. Some of the interesting locations featured in the reveal trailer depicted Sonic sprinting and flying through sky islands, lush forests, volcanic grounds, beaches, and castles. The Sonic Superstars reveal trailer also showed a glimpse of one of Sonic’s impressive abilities, by which he can summon an army of clones by using Chaos Emeralds, which is a resource that can be collected in-game.
Sonic Superstars trailer introduces three playable characters
The game features multiple characters apart from Sonic, each of whom possesses different abilities. Sonic has supernatural speed, while another playable character, Tails, can allow players to fly using the character’s helicopter fan-like spinning tail. Knuckles, another character revealed during the showcase, possesses the ability to scale tall walls and mountains. The last character from upcoming Sonic Superstars revealed in the showcase was Amy Rose, who possesses a hammer and can stomp & smash her way through obstacles and enemies.
