Bethesda games have always had a fair share of bad luck when their anticipated games are released in the market. We have witnessed the terrible launch of Fallout 76, Redfall, Skyrim, New Vegas, and now we are adding Starfield PS5 to the list.
Everybody got excited when Bethesda shared the news of Starfield getting new DLCs and a PS5 release, which is a big deal, since the game was sitting under the exclusive category only for Xbox. Now that Starfield has finally launched on PS5, the experience has been somewhat disappointing for some, and massively bad for others.
The game is not running well, in some cases, completely unplayable. The debut of Starfield on PS5 is mostly negative, to the point where people are seeking the option to refund rather than try Bethesda’s open-world space experience. Instead of facing bugs in the space that can be killed with a weapon, PS5 players are facing bugs with the game that can only be suppressed with restarts, reinstalls, or, lastly refunding.
Crashes, Bugs, Glitches All Around

The subreddit for Starfield has many players crashing out on the game based on the experience they felt running the game on their PS5. The experience of Starfield has been the same on PS5 vanilla and the expensive Pro version. Many players have reported suggesting fixes such as disabling auto-save, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect on the performance of the game, which has been terrible.
One post, with an overwhelming 2k Upvotes, sitting at the top of the PS5 subreddit warns players “Starfield PS5 players demand refunds, reporting widespread bugs and glitches that leave the game ‘unplayable'”.

“Regular ps5.. exploring planets crash.. not even 10 mins of gameplay this time. Graphics on performance 60fps cap.. actually doing a mission this time. It’s not a crash, the game just freezes and no buttons work. Have the home button and close the game , no crash report allowed..”
While some left satirical remarks about Bethesda fixing the game in the anniversary edition in the year 2030. If you just search Starfield crashes on PS5 on YouTube or Google, you will be met with countless articles informing you about the bugs and videos telling you all the steps you must follow to fix them.
Behind all the noise, there are players who are genuinely enjoying their Starfield experience on PS5.
Some Possible Fixes

We will not guarantee you that any of the fixes will work on Starfield, but if you have bought the game, then feel free to try out the fixes listed below to optimize your experience.
- Some have tweaked the settings to Uncapped FPS/ Enhanced Priority to smooth the experience.
- Setting the game to Performance mode at 60 FPS with PSSR enabled and becoming less reliant on quick saves for crash fixes.
- Turning off Enhance PSSR Image Quality lowers the rate of issues.
- Clearing the cache has worked with many players in getting rid of frequent crashes.
But the bugs are present, and the frequent crashes have become a commonality in Starfield. Players who have installed mods of any kind are facing regular crashes in their game. We will recommend waiting on the purchase of Starfield on PS5 until Bethesda releases some decent patches improving the performance, especially tackling the crashing issue.
