Nintendo Switch 2 has been a hot topic for the entire gaming industry over 2023. However, according to new predictions by the CEO of Kantan Games, a Japanese gaming industry data provider, the next Nintendo Switch console might be a Switch Pro, rather than a brand-new console.
In a recent prediction (on gamesindustry.biz) made by Dr. Serkan Toto, the CEO of Kantan Games, the time for Nintendo to release a successor for their immensely popular 2017 Switch console has arrived. However, according to them, it won’t be a completely new console, but ‘an iteration, rather than a revolution’. Dr. Toto believes that Nintendo will drop the enhanced version of the current-gen switch, complete with additional ‘bells and whistles’, in 2024.
Dr. Toto has also predicted that the new Switch console will be priced at $400. They predict that Nintendo will not make any massive changes to the current console, instead, it will add some extra features but won’t lose the most convenient and popular feature of the Switch: portability. Dr. Toto believes the root cause for this is the popularity of Pokémon games, as these games are by and large associated with portable and handheld gaming.
Apart from this, Dr. Toto also believes that the games for this next-gen Switch console will be priced at $70, which is at par with the launch price of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and only $10 higher than last big release for Switch, Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
As for rumors regarding the next iteration of Nintendo’s handheld console, they have been rampant over the past year. There were reports of the Switch successor being displayed to a select few back in August 2023, with the new console rumored to be launching in Q1 2024. However, come November 2023, the Nintendo president quashed all the Switch 2 rumors so far. However, with Kantan CEO’s prediction, all eyes are on Nintendo to finally make an official announcement.
