The release date for Marvel’ Spider-Man 2 was finally revealed to be October 20 during Summer Game Fest. Along with the release date, some new concept images for the game were released and the game’s director addressed one of the major things people have been wondering about, that is Venom’s identity.
While talking to the host, Bryan Intihar, director of Spider-Man 2, disclosed that Venom is not Eddie Brock, as most commonly depicted in comic books and several movie adaptations.
After revealing the game’s key art of Miles and Peter fighting Venom, host Geoff Keighley nudged the director to disclose the identity of Venom in the Spider-Man 2. He asked Intihar whether this was the Osborne Venom or Eddie Brock Venom. To this, the director simply responded by saying that ‘it’s not Eddie Brock.’
He then explained that their goal during the development of this game was to depict a new story. He also claimed that the story will be completely different from the ones told and retold in comics as well as movies till date. Bryan stated that all the things Marvel fans love about Venom are present in the upcoming game. However, in order to uncover the identity of Venom in the game, players will just have to wait and play it for themselves. He moved on to discuss the map and the advanced movesets for the symbiote suit-donning Peter after that, quickly brushing off the topic.
Bryan Intihar revealed that the map for Spider-Man 2 includes Queens and Brooklyn and as a result, is almost double the size of maps from the first two games. Talking about Peter’s symbiote suit, he talked about how it will not only change Peter’s moves and powers but also his personality. From a cursory look at the trailer, the suit appears to be more aggressive than the first two games.
