PC gaming has always been one of the most definitive ways to experience the world of video games, allowing players to crank up the graphics to the maximum and enjoy games with the highest fidelity. As we look forward to the year 2023, there are a few amazing PC games on the horizon I am personally getting excited about.
From highly anticipated remakes to new IPs, I believe these games will make some solid waves when they release this year.
System Shock – May 30
System Shock is one of the most highly anticipated remakes of a genre-defining classic. Originally released in 1994, it was a groundbreaking sci-fi action game that set the standard for immersive first-person experiences.
Fast forward almost three decades, and fans of the original game (including me) eagerly await the System Shock remake. This remake promises to expand on the original game, featuring updated music, interface, and visuals while retaining the main elements that made the original so beloved. With modernized FPS gunplay mechanics and a blend of old and new, the System Shock remake is set to satisfy both the nostalgia of old fans and the curiosity of new players.
Street Fighter 6 – June 2
Street Fighter 6, the latest installment in one of Capcom’s most successful franchises, is on my list of games to play this year. Street Fighter has been a staple in the fighting game community for decades, and fans eagerly await the release of Street Fighter 6 in June.
I expect this game to reinvent the classic fighting gameplay that the series has been known for a while, adding new game mechanics, such as the Drive Gauge, which will encourage players to be more creative and strategic in their battles.
Diablo 4 – June 6
The Diablo series has long been regarded as one of the best PC ARPGs of all time, and fans have been eagerly waiting for the release of Diablo 4. I hope the game will return to the series’ roots, with a darker tone and a storyline that harkens back to the beloved Diablo 2.
After the polarizing reception of Diablo 3, fans are hoping that Diablo 4 will deliver the same level of dark and gritty gameplay that made the series a hit in the first place. With updated visuals, new classes, and a return to the franchise’s roots, Diablo 4 is set to be a game that fans have been waiting for with bated breath.
Starfield – September 6
Moving away from remakes and sequels, we have Starfield, a new IP from Bethesda Softworks. Known for their immersive open-world RPGs, Bethesda is taking players to the final frontier with Starfield, promising a Fallout-like experience set in space.
As one of Microsoft’s biggest exclusives this year, Starfield has been generating a lot of buzz among gamers. It is set to be a game that combines Bethesda’s signature RPG gameplay with space travel mechanics, offering players a fresh and exciting experience in a new setting.
Baldur’s Gate 3 – August 31
Baldur’s Gate 3, developed by Larian Studios, is a highly anticipated release for RPG enthusiasts. With its solo and co-op gameplay elements, players are ready for the continuation of the story that takes place 120 years after the events of Baldur’s Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal. The release of Baldur’s Gate 3 will surely be a nostalgic trip down memory lane for long-time fans of the series while also providing a fresh and updated experience for newcomers to the franchise.
