Remnant 2 was announced late last year and here we are just hours away from the game’s release. Early access to the game has been available since July 21 and the initial impressions are quite good. Gunfire Games’ Soulslike title has fans excited with what is set to be a unique addition to the sub-genre. So, now the question in everyone’s mind is ‘Is Remnant 2 Steam Deck Compatible?’
The answer is yes, it is compatible, and many Steam Deck players have been enjoying the game, although not entirely. There seems to be a catch to Remnant 2’s Steam Deck Compatibility.
Remnant 2 Steam Deck Verified
Remnant 2 much like other platforms has also been available on Steam Deck since 21 July and the first impressions of the game on the platform are mixed. While players have enjoyed the fact that early access is also available on Steam Deck, it seems to come with certain drawbacks that could hinder gameplay and ruin the experience especially after the full release.
The Remnant 2 marketing team has been proactive in promoting the fact that the game is Steam Deck Verified. However, there is no official Steam Deck Rating yet. While this isn’t necessarily reason for alarm, the initial impressions of gameplay are. Remnant 2 seems to be suffering from FPS issues on the platform which could hinder gameplay.
Can you play Remnant 2 at 60 FPS on Steam Deck?
While there are videos and tweets out there claiming you can, the reality is somewhat underwhelming. The game does reach 60 FPS once you’ve lowered all graphics settings and set FSR to performance. But it is not steady. In fact, you might just catch glimpses of 50-60 fps on Steam deck with most of the gameplay delivering less than 30 FPS.
With 1280×800 resolution, the best you can expect on Steam deck would be around 25-30 FPS with all graphics settings turned to low. Although even at this, there will be times when the FPS could drop below 25, especially during combat and loading new levels.
The best way to get a stable 30 FPS would be to reduce the resolution to a much lower value. But that would render the visuals blurry and ruin the whole experience. It has to be noted that at any resolution when loading larger areas, the FPS tends to dip sharply, albeit for a few moments. This is cause for concern when you are entering combat where gameplay could become impossible.
Al that being said, this FPS issue is not confined to Steam Deck. Even PC users have reported framerate drops and many have said it is almost unplayable at times. Yesterday the devs shared on the Remnant 2 subreddit that they banked on upscaling tech (DLSS, FSR, and XeSS) to do the major legwork for the game on the performance front.

The early access period is meant to test and sort such issues out. So, we can only hope that Gunfire Games are hard at work trying to make last minute tweaks to the final game to make the Remnant 2 experience an enjoyable one for Steam Deck and PC users.
