Even in space, the Starfield NPCs believe that some higher power might still be omnipresent and protecting them. This very belief has led them to create three completely new Starfield Religions that you might come across during the character creation menu.
While sticking to your own ideologies and denouncing religion might be your play in this space centric game, but you might rethink your decision after learning the perks and rewards attached to each one of them.
All Starfield Religions
There is a total of three Starfield religions to choose from:
- The Enlightened
- Sanctum Universum
- House Va’ruun
The Enlightened

The members of the House of the Enlightened are atheists who do not believe any higher being might be present. Rather than a full-fledged religion, the Enlightened are a group devoted to humanism and deeply care for others. They believe that aiding people in need and doing good deeds will make their own lives prosperous.
To join the Enlightened, you need to select “Raised Enlightened” as one of the three traits during character creation. This will give you access to the House of the Enlightened and you will be able to unlock the loot chest there.
House of the Enlightened Rewards

Looting the House of the Enlightened will reward you with several bandages, books, and a Settler Poncho outfit. Wearing this outfit, players will get a +10 increase to their health bar.
Sanctum Universum

Formed only 20 years ago, this new religion is filled with devotees believing that God might be out there in the unknown. Members of the Sanctum Universum think that since mankind is now able to travel through space, one day they might even be able to find their God in another universe.
To join the Sanctum Universum, you need to select “Raised Universal” as one of the three traits during character creation. This will give you access to the Sanctum Universum house and you will be able to unlock the loot chest there.
Sanctum Universum Rewards

Location: New Atlantis
Looting the Sanctum Universum will reward you with several bandages, books, and a Neocity Urbanwear outfit. Wearing this outfit, players will get a +5% increase in their oxygen recovery.
House Va’ruun

Considered to be more of a cult than a religion, the members of the House Va’ruun worship a deity called the Great Serpent. They believe that on the day of the reckoning, this Great Serpent will rise and gobble up the entire universe. Rumor has it, that this cult was founded on a colony ship by a person who had experienced too many grav jumps. He claims to have seen the deity who instructed him to either form the House Va’ruun or be devoured.
To join the House Va’ruun, you need to select “Serpent’s Embrace” as one of the three traits during character creation.
Serpent’s Embrace Pros and Cons
Being one of the only Starfield religions to have both positive and negative effects, the Serpent’s Embrace trait will boost your character’s health and endurance if grav jump is done regularly. Otherwise, you will suffer from decreased health and endurance.
How to Leave Starfield Religions?
To leave any religion and get rid of the trait in Starfield, all you need to do is talk to the head priest/head of the house.
If you want to remove the Serpent’s Embrace trait you need to speak to Mir’za in the UC Security Office in New Atlantis. Mir’za will let you leave House Va’ruun and you will no longer have to grav jump every day.
