How To Grav Jump And Fast Travel In Starfield

The most iconic space travel theory seen in every popular space media is the jump drive that lets a ship do light jumps between systems. All of that is undoubtedly the inspiration behind the Grav Jump mechanic in Starfield, which enables you to fast-travel between your explored systems in space. While the distance on this jump is nothing too impressive to begin with, you can upgrade this as you upgrade your ship.

In this guide below, we will explain how you can use the Grav Drive in Starfield so you can jump between all the systems that you like to your heart’s content.

There are two different ways in which you can fast-travel in Starfield or initiate the Grav Jump: One is by just having a current Mission Marker of any mission, and the other is by manually setting a course via the Starmap.

How to fast travel in Starfield using a Mission Marker

  1. Get your spaceship into open space.
  2. Make sure your destination is within the jump range of your current Grav Drive and also has enough Fuel (He3).
  3. Turn your ship and face it directly toward this marker at the center of your screen. Then press the button that will be prompted on the screen to travel there.
  4. If you are in orbit, you will need to allocate power to the Starfield Grav Drive (GRV) which is displayed on the lower left of the screen.
  5. Once this is done, your Grav Drive will charge for 4 seconds and you will jump to your destination.

How to fast travel in Starfield using the Starmap

  1. Make sure your ship is in open space.
  2. Open your star map and choose your destination.
  3. Make sure that your chosen destination on the map is within the jump range of your current Grav Drive and also has enough Fuel (He3).
  4. Select your destination and then select the ‘Jump’ option in the menu.
  5. You will now instantly jump to your target destination.

Tips for using Grav Jump to fast travel

Keep in mind that many times you will be restricted and not be allowed to use the Grav Drive. This will happen due to either not having enough Fuel in your He3 Tanks, your destination being out of your Grav Drive Jump Range, or both. So, it is important to make these and be aware of them while traveling through space.

You can also always fast-travel to your ship from anywhere by choosing the ship on your map and selecting to fast-travel to it, or simply highlighting the ship icon on your scanner and pressing the button prompt for it.

If you are lost and do not know where to go for a particular quest, you can look at your Mission Log. When selecting a quest, you will get a prompt to fast-travel straight to its destination where you are supposed to be for that quest.

How To Increase Grav Jump Range in Starfield

At any major settlement (like New Atlantis, Akila City, etc.), you’ll find ship technicians. If you initiate a conversation with them, you’ll get the chance to modify your spacecraft. To increase your ship’s grav jump range, all you need to do is upgrade its current grav drive with a better one.

That is all you need to know on how to use the Starfield Grav Jump to fast-travel easily around the galaxy. Keep on the lookout for more guides and other articles in our Starfield section.
