From hunting down enemy ships in space, and unlocking hidden chests, to persuading companions with your charm, you require certain Starfield skills to master each of these actions. Mastering them means you must invest points into five different categories of the skill tree.
All of the categories—Physical, Social, Combat, Science, and Tech—have a plethora of skills filling up the skill tree in Starfield. But, unlocking the right ones is vital for your character’s progression. Here are some recommended skills that you need to get as early in the game as possible.
Best Starfield Skills to Get Early
Boost Pack Training
Boost Pack Training unlocks the use of boost packs for your character. These boost packs are essentially jet packs used for double jumps. If jumping from a high place, these boost packs can also prevent fall damage and be useful while exploring desolate planets.
Targeting Control Systems
The Targeting Control Systems skill allows you to target and destroy specific modules of enemy ships in space. Rank 1 of this skill set unlocks the targeting mode of your own ship. This targeting mode helps lock on to certain parts of the enemy’s ships like the engine which you can destroy to render the ship completely immobile. And that lets you board an enemy ship, and loot everything inside. Moreover, you have the option to register the ship and make it part of your fleet.
Weight Lifting
This one is for all fellow hoarders in Starfield. If you are always lacking inventory space in the game, Rank 1 in Weight Lifting can increase your carrying capacity by 10 kilograms. Boosting this skill up to Rank 4 will increase your carrying capacity by 100 kilograms and also lessen stagger by 50%.
Stealth
The Stealth skill in the Physical category is one of the best ones to get early on in the game. Unlocking rank 1 of Stealth not only boosts your stealth but also adds a stealth meter for better gameplay.
Persuasion
Persuasion skill is very handy when making decisions in certain missions of the game. Your companions may also need to be persuaded for certain tasks and a skill point spent on this skill set is definitely worthwhile. Rank 1 of Persuasion increases the success rate of persuading NPCs.
Ballistics
Instead of spending points increasing certain weapons in the game, spending just one skill point in Ballistics enables a 10% increase in damage dealt by ballistic weapons like shotguns, pistols, etc. You can also boost this skill set up to Rank 4 for a 40% increase.
Medicine
You are bound to take some damage while out adventuring in the vast universe. With the limited number of medical supplies and lack of credits at the early stages of Starfield, your best option is to get the Medicine skill set from the Science Skill Tree. This skill will increase healing effects by 10% and reduce the time taken to heal by 10% as well.
Security
The Security skill is helpful for all the digipick enthusiasts in the game. Rank 1 of Security not only unlocks ‘Advanced Locks’, but also allows 2 auto attempts.
You can always pick and choose between any skill you like from the 80 different options presented in Starfield. Each level up will earn you one skill point and since there are no restrictions to the max level of your character, you can always take your time with each selection.
