Besides a vast open galaxy to explore and intricate RPG questlines to embark on, Starfield lets you hop on planets, harvest new materials, generate resources, and much more. Refining Fallout 4’s settlement system, Bethesda has almost perfected the mechanic with Starfield outposts. Put simply, outposts in this game are basically your base camps throughout the Milky Way galaxy. And you can generate resources, assign crew, and better yet, call it your home.
This article will explore ways to make Starfield outposts alongside the best locations and skills for them. This will not only help you gather essential materials and resources but also help you upgrade your gear.
Best locations for Starfield outposts
Although hundreds of planets and moons are available in Starfield, only some of them are suitable for building an outpost. To choose a perfect planet for your outpost, you must consider the resources available on that planet by traveling close to it and scanning it. You won’t likely find all your desired resources in one location, so be prepared to build a few on different planets in a system.
The necessary resources to look for when building your starter Starfield outpost should include:
- Iron
- Aluminum
- Lead
- Sealant
- Titanium
Alongside resources, you should consider some different factors while selecting the perfect planet for your Starfield outpost, such as Climate, Magnetosphere, and Atmosphere.
Starfield outpost modules
Once you’ve found your perfect planet, open your scanner and place an Outpost Beacon. This beacon will serve as your spawn point in that Outpost. After you are done with setting the beacon, open the menu and select the module of your liking. There are various modules with different functions in Starfield, including:
- Watchtower
- Extractor
- Hallway – Industrial
- Hydroponic Hab A
- Hydroponic Hab Round
- Military Hab
- Airlock
- Science Hab Small
- Small Hex Hab
- Four Wall Hab
In Starfield, there are more modules than those mentioned above, like Landing Pads, Scan Boosters, and Crew Stations. In terms of choosing the perfect modules for Outposts, it depends on your priority. You can use it as storage, a home on distant planets, a crafting and research hub, or a mining base.
