Metal Gear Solid 3 Remake is, without a doubt, the most anticipated remake of the year. It finally got a trailer in PS Showcase and people are simply over the moon. However, one question has been on everybody’s mind – will the original creator of the game, Hideo Kojima, be working on this remake as well? The short answer is no.
This doesn’t come as a surprise, since Kojima had left Konami in 2015 to focus on his own production house, Kojima Productions. Fans were still hoping, however, that the prodigal director will return to see his brainchild through. While talking to IGN India, a spokesperson of Konami addressed Hideo Kojima’s involvement in the remake. They simply said,
“They (Kojima) are not involved. However, the development team will work hard to create this remake and also the ports (for Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection) so that they can be enjoyed on multiple platforms by even more players all around the world.”
This may be a little disappointing, as it was Hideo Kojima’s unique vision that made MGS3 stand out from all the other contemporary action-adventure games. MGS3 was even drastically different than the first two games in the series, introducing a jungle environment and focusing more on stealth and calculative action rather than just gun-slinging.
While talking to representatives of IGN India, the Konami spokesperson revealed that the development team behind the Master Collection remake is the one that has been:
“involved in the production of the past [games in the] Metal Gear series.”
They also addressed the big question, as to why they chose to remake the third installment and not the first two, by stating that MGS3 will actually make a good entry point into Metal Gear Solid series. The original MGS3, directed by Hideo Kojima, served as a prequel to the first two Metal Gear Solid games and focused on how the series protagonist, Naked Snake, came to be the big bad, as featured in previous and subsequent MGS games.
