Destiny 2: Edge of Fate is the first step in the brand-new saga after the conclusion of The Final Shape in 2024. However, with the start of this new saga, players can expect quite a few changes to how Destiny 2 is played at its core.
Edge of Fate is releasing on July 15, 2025, and once the update is live, all the changes will also become available. Here’s what you can expect with the release of Destiny 2’s brand-new expansion, The Edge of Fate.
Introduction of Armor 3.0

Armor 3.0 is the brand new take into how Armor and stats work in the game. As of The Final Shape, all the major Armor stats are Mobility, Resilience, Recovery, Discipline, Intellect, and Strength.
These stats are getting changed in the following order:
Old Stats | New Stats |
---|---|
Mobility | Weapons |
Resilience | Health |
Recovery | Class |
Discipline | Grenade |
Intellect | Super |
Strength | Melee |
These changes aren’t just name alterations, as Weapons increase the damage of your firearm against enemies, bosses, and PVP combatants, Health increases the amount of HP you restore from Orbs, and Class determines how fast your class ability regenerates.
Grenade, Super, and Melee perform in the exact same way as they increase your Grenade recharge speed, Super recharge speed, and Melee recharge speed, respectively.
Additionally, Armor Archetypes are being added, where armor drops will have a combination of some of these stats. However, certain combinations aren’t possible, such as Weapons and Super. If you have access to armor pieces with good stats from before Edge of Fate launches, then those pieces will be converted based on the Armor 3.0 changes.
This means an Armor piece with high Mobility and Intellect will now have high Weapons and Super, which is technically an illegal stat, but you will be able to keep it.

Modifier Selection

In Edge of Fate, you’ll have the option to select your preferred Modifiers for activities so that you can farm higher-tier gear pieces. The modifiers you can choose include locking power levels, enemy banes, loadout penalties, and gameplay augments.
The more Modifiers you have, the harder your activity will become, which will further improve the loot you get from the activity. This is important since if you want higher-tier gear, you will have to add modifiers and complete the activities with a high score.
Power Level changes

Power level is receiving a big overhaul in Destiny 2: The Edge of Fate expansion. All the gear that you receive will have a hard cap of 200. However, there will be a Seasonal Power level, which will exceed the 200 mark.
In order to receive items that exceed the hard cap, you will need to obtain special seasonal items, which in turn can be used to enhance your current gear through Unstable Cores. These Unstable Cores will be obtained by completing harder activities, and they will expire at the end of a season.
Artifact Power and Pinnacle Power Grind are completely gone, and focusing on Seasonal Power level will be the focus as we advance.

Gear Tier changes

In The Edge of Fate expansion, the developers are introducing Gear tiers, where the rating will vary from one to five. Tier one will be the lowest, while Tier five will be the highest, and it will apply to both weapons and armor.
Tier | Weapons | Armor |
---|---|---|
1 | No Enhanced Perks/Traits | 52-57 stat roll |
2 | Enhanced Traits | 58-63 stat roll |
3 | Two enhanced Traits | 64-69 stat roll |
4 | Enhanced barrel, magazine, and mod slots | 70-75 stat roll |
5 | Enhanced Origin Traits and Visual changes. | 75 stat roll and stat tuning |
The weapon changes aren’t that big, since Tier three will be more than enough in most cases. If you’re playing PvP, then the enhanced Barrel and magazine options will matter a bit, depending on the map you’re playing.
However, Origin Traits don’t really offer as much of a difference to how the weapon performs, apart from very niche scenarios.
Armor pieces, on the other hand, will vary massively depending on whether you’re using Tier one or Tier five. This is because, if your armor starts with a 75 fixed roll with additional stat tuning, you will be able to optimize how much damage you deal, how fast you heal, how many Grenades you can spam, and much more.
Getting access to Tier five armor should be your priority before you prepare yourself for the day one raid.
Trials of Osiris Power Changes

Trials of Osiris is the premium PvP mode of Destiny, and with the release of The Edge of Fate, they are disabling the power level. This means, as long as you hit the hard cap of 200, you’ll be able to play Trials without any restrictions.
This makes weapon swapping a lot easier, as you don’t have to worry about season power level to infuse your weapons. This also makes the mode even more accessible to casual players who don’t have much time to grind power levels when compared to hardcore players.
