Core Keeper is a survival adventure with a blend of exploration, mining, and farming. A key mechanic of this experience is having a pet companion. These furry friends not only provide companionship but also offer gameplay benefits. This guide covers how to acquire, level up, and understand the abilities of each pet in Core Keeper.
How To Get A Pet In Core Keeper
The primary method to acquire a pet in Core Keeper is by finding pet eggs. These can be found in various locations throughout the game, such as in crates, as enemy drops, by defeating bosses, and by purchasing them from certain Merchant NPCs. Here’s how you can get a pet from pet eggs in Core Keeper:
- Acquiring Eggs: Pets are hatched from eggs that can be found in various biomes or retrieved as loot by defeating bosses.
- Craft an Egg Incubator: To hatch your pet egg, you will need to create an Egg Incubator. This can be crafted at a Copper Workbench using 8 Copper Bars and 8 Glass Pieces.
- Incubate the Egg: Once you have the incubator ready, place the egg in it and wait for 30 minutes. After the process is complete, a cracked egg will be retrieved.
- Hatch the Pet: Finally, equip the cracked egg in your hotbar and use it like any other item. This will hatch your new pet.
As you hatch your first pet in Core Keeper, you will be rewarded with the Your Very First Achievement.

How To Level Up Your Pets In Core Keeper?
Pets in Core Keeper gain experience points primarily through combat. Hence, the more enemies they take down or damage, the faster they will level up. Pets can level up to level 10 while earning 5 Skill Points in the process. These points can be used to acquire any 5 out of the 9 available talents specific to each pet.
You can reset the talent pool of a pet by spending 200 Ancient Coins at the pet information panel. Also, keep in mind that hatched pets start at level 1 and their stats are not transferable even between members of the same species.
Another method of leveling up your pets faster in the game is by feeding them special candies and boosters. Currently, there are three edible pet leveling up items in Core Keeper:
- Pet Pellet: Grants 50 Experience Points.
- Rare Candy: Grants 500 Experience Points.
- Beast Booster: Grants 5000 Experience Points.
These items come incredibly handy since your pet needs to acquire a total of 99,718 points to max out. Once your pet has reached the highest level, you will unlock the Pet Prodigy Achievement.
