How To Do Fishing In Core Keeper?

Once you have obtained a fishing rod of your choice in Core Keeper, you can start fishing. Here’s how to locate a suitable water body and cast your line:

  1. Locating a suitable water body: This is the most critical task in catching fish because not all water bodies have fishes. If you still cast your line in a water body without fishes, you will catch random items. Ideally you should look for lakes, rivers, oceans, and Grub Cavern for hotspots thriving with fishes.
  2. Equipping fishing rod: Once you have finalized your fishing spot, you need to open your inventory and equip your fishing rod. It is optional to equip a bait in your fishing slot; but you should go ahead and do that as it increases chances of catching fish.
  3. Cast your line: Now, head to the edge of the water and stand still. You need to hold the secondary action button (right mouse button) and release it to cast your fishing line. Also, be mindful to aim the fishing line into the water as aiming it towards rocks or cliffs will result in a failed fishing attempt.
  4. Watch the bobber: Once the line has been cast, you need to pay attention to the bobber. If there is a sign of the bobber dipping in the surface of the water, it is an indication of a potential catch. This will be accompanied by a sound effect of a fish biting into the line.
  5. Reeling: When the bobber signals a bite, press the secondary action button once again to reel in your catch. You need to be mindful of the tension bar at this step, you need to avoid reeling when the bar turns red. Reeling too fast or while the fish is in an aggressive motion can snap the line, resulting in a lost catch.

Fishing Baits In Core Keeper

While totally optional to use, baits are highly recommended fishing items in Core Keeper that can significantly improve your fishing success. You can craft bait at the Bait Workbench or purchase it from The Fishing Merchant. If you do not have one already, you can head to a Tin Workbench and combine these resources:

  • Tin Bar x 5
  • Wood x 8

Baits attract fish, increase chances of catching rarer species of fish, and can even have other effects on your fishing experience. Here’s the breakdown of the different types of baits available in Core Keeper.

BaitEffectCrafting
Spicy BaitIncreases the speed at which the fish bites the hookCrafted using Bomb Peppers
Sweet BaitIncreases chance of catching fishCrafted using Sugar Cane
Glowing BaitIncreases the chance of catching rarer non-fish items, such as treasure chests or valuable resourcesCrafted using Glow Tulips

Green BaitIncreases the speed at which fish bite and the chance of catching a fish on the hookCrafted using Green Algae and Octarine Bars
Red BaitIncreases the speed at which fish bite and makes it easier to reel them inCrafted using Red Mushrooms and Octarine Bars
