Everdark Sovereign Augur features the high difficulty version of the boss Maris, Fathom of the Night, as part of an update in Elden Ring: Nightreign. This is the fourth Everdark Sovereign boss, after Gaping Jaw, Darkdrift Knight, and Sentient Pest.
Maris was the easiest boss in the base version of the bosses, but the Everdark Sovereign definitely takes things to a new level. The higher health pool, accompanied by the damage output, definitely adds an added layer of difficulty that players will have to deal with.
Everdark Sovereign Augur (Maris) Boss Guide in Elden Ring: Nightreign

Everdark Sovereign Augur is a two-phase boss fight, where the first phase is pretty easy. However, when the second phase begins, that is when the fight becomes difficult. Lightning is still the best elemental choice here since you can stun the boss easily.
Once phase 1 ends, a Golden terminal will spawn in the middle of the arena. You’ll be able to pick up a powerful weapon from here, which works a lot like Storm Ruler from Dark Souls 3. The only difference is that it shoots magic.
Pick up the weapon and start shooting powerful magic arcs towards the boss. During the second phase, Maris will bring forth a plethora of powerful attacks, which you’ll have to dodge in between your attacks. Managing health and stamina will be key to this fight.
Make sure you hit all the Churches so that you are stacked up on flasks. Apart from that, make sure your level is 15, as there’s no other way to stay alive in this fight. This boss hits pretty hard and is way more difficult than the base version you might have fought.
Reaching level 15 is pretty easy, especially if you’re following the Evergaol strategy. Defeat as many world bosses as possible, and make sure you hit any Lightning camps, so that you have the desired weapon.

Everdark Sovereign Augur (Maris) Boss move list in Elden Ring: Nightreign

There are a few moves you should be aware of when fighting the enhanced version of Augur in the game. Keep in mind that there are a few phases to face.
Phase 1
As soon as you enter the arena, phase 1 of the fight begins. You only have the base Augur to fight.
Move | Description | How to Counter |
---|---|---|
Dash | The boss will dash onto the players and deal damage to anyone in its path. | You can sidestep the move, and that will pretty much keep you out of harm’s way. |
Water Splash | Augur will splash two waves of water towards a player. | These plashes can hurt and have a minor knockback. However, you can roll through the splash and you’ll be fine. |
The first phase of the boss has very little HP, and you can take it down without even taking any damage. Spam any lighting abilities and you’ll rush through the first phase.

Phase 2
During phase 2, the boss reveals itself as Maris, Fathom of the Night. He has new moves, a higher health pool, and high damage.
Move | Description | How to Counter |
---|---|---|
Dash | The boss will dash at the player, similar to the first phase. The difference is that Maris is a lot bigger in size, so the hitbox is bigger as well. | There is no difference in how to tackle the move, as all you do is side step, and you’ll be fine. |
Laser | Maris will charge up a laser and drag it across the ground in a straight line. Once the laser has passed, it will leave a trail that will deal magic damage. | You’ll have to dodge away from the path of the laser. This is because, while the initial hit hurts, the explosion from the trail is even more lethal. |
Laser Beams | Maris will shoot multiple laser beams towards the player and deal massive damage. If three laser beams hit at once, it’s guaranteed death. | You’ll have to keep dodging and moving when the lasers are active. These laser beams hit very hard, and they won’t give you a moment to breathe. |
Magic Bombs | The boss will also throw bombs at the player, which will explode on impact. | You’ll have to dodge away from the bombs as quickly as possible. Ideally, you would want to side dodge. However, if you’re not in a position to dodge, you can sprint from the area of explosion. |
Tidal Wave | The water splash from phase 1 is now converted to a massive tidal wave in phase 2. | The dodging remains the same, as you simply need to side step or run away from its path. Since the size is bigger, the timing of the dodge is difficult. However, you should get it in one or two tries. |
It can take some time to get used to fighting this boss, but it’s worth the attempt. Just make sure to keep adjusting based on the attacks.
Best characters to fight Everdark Sovereign Augur (Maris) in Elden Ring: Nightreign

The three classes recommended for this fight are:
- Ironeye
- Recluse
- Wylder
Ironeye makes the fight a lot easier, similar to the base version, since you can keep shooting from a distance. Additionally, if you don’t want to use the Storm Ruler, Ironeye can still damage the boss in phase 2, without being forced to chase it too much.
Recluse is also a good choice, since she can easily collect Lightning Remnants and deal damage to the boss. However, her health is very low, and she is hard to play, so not recommended for newer players.
Wylder is also a good choice, especially in phase 2, where you get access to the Storm Ruler. The whole idea where you had to rely on Ironeye in your team is gone, and any melee class will work. However, Wylder is balanced in terms of health and stamina, so he will be easy for new players to navigate.
Recommended Build for Everdark Sovereign Augur (Maris) in Elden Ring: Nightreign

Elements | Our Build | Recommended for You |
---|---|---|
Weapon | Bow with Lightning damage | Any source of Lightning damage |
Level | 15 | 15 |
Relics and Talisman | Boost Stamina, Sleep Resistance, Evergaol Relic | Same as the previous column |
Maris, Fathom of the Night hits hard, so level 15 is highly recommended. Additionally, any weapon that can deal Lightning damage is a must, especially for the first phase. If you can’t get access to a Lightning weapon, a Lightning spell will also work.
The Evergaol meta is still quite active, so you can go with it if you want. Sleep Resistance and HP boosts are also vital, as you would want to stay alive and manage your health flasks as much as possible. Higher HP means you can take a few hits before being forced to heal up.
Stamina boost is also crucial since there is a lot of dodging involved. As such, if you have high stamina, you’ll be able to deal with most of the boss’s moves in phase 2.
