Crossplay in Coral Island has become one of the biggest talking points since the game’s 1.2 update dropped. With the introduction of co-op, farming fans finally get to team up and build their dream islands together, whether they’re on PC or console.
You can link up between Steam and Xbox, or Steam and PlayStation, but there’s one catch: Xbox and PlayStation players can’t share the same world session. Understanding how this process works before diving in can help prevent a lot of confusion. From tending crops to exploring Coral Island Mining for resources, there’s now more to enjoy with friends.
Is there local co-op on Coral Island?

No, Coral Island doesn’t support couch co-op. If you were hoping to split a screen and farm alongside someone sitting next to you, that option isn’t available. Co-op in this game is strictly online only. That said, it still manages to deliver a fun multiplayer setup by allowing up to four people to share the same island.
You can invite three friends at a time and play together from different platforms, as long as those platforms are compatible under the crossplay rules. Since multiplayer is still evolving, big seasonal events like the Animal Festival might also end up working differently (once it launches), depending on the platform setup.
How to play Coral Island with friends

Update 1.2 brought co-op along with new romance events, outfits, and even a crossover event, but for most players, farming with friends is the highlight. Setting up a multiplayer game is straightforward, whether you’re hosting or joining. To start a Co-op Game in Coral Island:
- From the main menu, select the Co-op option.
- If you’re hosting, choose between starting fresh with a new save or using an existing one.
- If you’re joining, hit Join Game and enter the invite code.
Finding your invite code is easy:
- Open the save you want to host.
- Press escape to open the game menu.
- Click Party Management.
- At the bottom right, you’ll see the invite code slot. Click the eye icon to reveal it, or just copy it with the button beside it. You can also directly invite friends from here.
In co-op, a session can host up to four players at once, and the romance system follows clear rules, meaning if two players pursue the same NPC, only one will be able to marry them, making it a first-come, first-served outcome. On top of that, players aren’t limited to NPC relationships; they can also choose to marry each other, adding another layer of choice to shared life in the game.
Does Coral Island Support Crossplay?

Yes, Coral Island supports crossplay, but with limitations. Coral Island’s crossplay lets Steam players link up with Xbox or PlayStation friends, but console-to-console crossplay isn’t possible. That means:
- Steam can crossplay with Xbox
- Steam can crossplay with PlayStation
- Xbox and PlayStation cannot crossplay
So, if you’re hosting on Steam, you can invite someone from PlayStation or Xbox, but not both at the same time. For now, the Switch isn’t in the picture at all, and the devs haven’t confirmed if Crossplay in Coral Island will come once that version launches.
