In Dragon’s Dogma 2, many of your early adventures take place in Vernworth. However, you eventually venture south to Bakbattahl. There, you’ll undertake several quests to advance the plot, as well as some diversions that fill in side story. One such quest, Shadowed Prayers, finds you foiling an assassination attempt.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 – How to Complete Shadowed Prayers
When you first arrive in the Battahl region and start exploring, you’ll meet a character named Menella at a rest area just outside the city called Rockmouse’s Burrow. She doesn’t offer her quest just yet. However, if you rest at an inn after that first meeting and then visit Flamebearer Palace, you’ll run into her again at Flamebearer Ward. At that point, you can activate the Shadowed Prayers quest. To complete the Shadowed Prayers quest, you must successfully identify an assassin in the palace.
Technically, the mission completes whether you prevent the assassin from striking or not. And then, the game might save your progress to prevent you from trying again for a better result. For that reason, you should make sure to rest at an inn after you first accept the Shadowed Prayers quest. Or, if you have purchased a house in Battahl, you can rest there. That way, if you fail in your attempt, you have the option of exiting out to the title screen and then loading from your last rest.

When you visit Flamebearer Palace after your rest, look for Menella again. She introduces you to Ser Irmhild. You also receive the Bandit Bill of Arrest, which describes what they know of the assassin. You must use this description to thwart the imminent attempt.
After the meeting with those two characters, start up the stairs. Supplicants present themselves on the step as the empress leads the prayer. You must look over them and determine the one will ill intent. In my case, it was a fellow named Herman. He was about halfway up the steps, along the right side near the wall. Another supplicant stood just to his side. Looking him over in the glow of a lit lantern, I saw he had some scars on his right arm.
When you find the scarred supplicant, wait until the initial conversation ends. After that, you can press the button indicated on-screen to tackle the target. You want to make sure you do not accidentally tackle the wrong person. When you do tackle the assassin, a short scene follows. You receive your reward for clearing the mission successfully: 18000 G, 3500 XP, and Jasper x5. That’s a lot of loot for a job well done.
