Canteen in Grounded 2 is one of the earliest tools you’ll want to get your hands on if you’re planning to survive longer out in the wild. Since clean water doesn’t always show up when you need it, let’s you store and carry droplets, giving you more freedom to explore without constantly rushing back to juice boxes or dew collectors.
Grounded 2 – How to Craft A Canteen

Before you can even think about crafting a Canteen in Grounded 2, you’ll need the Shovel Omni Tool. It’s the only way to dig up what’s hiding beneath those moving dirt trails around the yard. If you don’t have the shovel yet, that’s your first stop. Without it, you won’t be able to dig up the grubs needed for the crafting material.
Once you’ve got the shovel, keep your eyes open for little tremors or moving dirt mounds on the ground. These are usually signs that either a grub or a larva is tunnelling underneath. You’re mainly looking for grubs, so you might have to dig up a few before getting the one you want.
Walk up to the tremor and dig with the shovel by pressing X on your gamepad. If a grub pops out, take it down with your Bow and collect the loot. What you’re hoping for is Grub Hide. Sometimes you’ll need to do this more than once to get the right drop, so don’t sweat it if it takes a few tries.
Note: Along with Grub Hide, there is a high chance of also obtaining materials like Grub Sludge as well as Arrows.

If you haven’t unlocked the Workbench yet, you’ll need to do that first. To get access, gather a few common resources like Sprigs, Sap, and Grass Planks, and run them through the Resource Analyzer. That should unlock the blueprint to build your own Workbench. To craft it, gather the usual basic materials, place the structure, and you’re good to go.
Ingredients for Crafting the Canteen in Grounded 2

With the Workbench ready and the Grub Hides in your inventory, all that’s left is crafting the canteen. Here’s what you’ll need:
- 3x Grub Hide
- 2x Crude Rope
If the Canteen recipe still isn’t showing up, go back and analyze the Grub Hide and Crude Rope at the Resource Analyzer. That usually does the trick. Once it’s unlocked, use the Workbench to craft it, and you’ve got your Canteen.

Tips for Using the Canteen in Grounded 2
Now that you’ve got it crafted, you’ll need to equip the Canteen from your inventory. Look for dew drops hanging off blades of grass. You can either wait for them to fall or chop the grass to knock them down. Once a dew drop is within reach, walk up and scoop it with the canteen.
- Once filled, the Canteen in Grounded 2 will show how many charges (drops) are inside, and you can drink from it at any time by equipping and pressing the use button.
- Prioritize collecting dewdrops early in the morning, when they’re easier to find hanging on blades of grass.
- Make sure to equip your Canteen before trying to collect. If it’s just in your inventory, it won’t store anything.
Remember that you can store two drops at a time. It also works for collecting dirty water, and you can even use it to deposit water into storage containers for later use.
