Created by Kuro Games, Wuthering Waves is a new open-world ARPG that has both the elements of gacha and story-driven gameplay combined into one. With a touch of anime-inspired characters and a picturesque post-apocalyptic storyline, the game has already been compared to one of the most popular gacha ARPGs out there, Genshin Impact.
While there may be some similarities connecting the two games, many different aspects of Wuthering Waves make it unique.
Is Wuthering Waves Similar To Genshin Impact?
When it comes to the open-world aspect, following a general fantasy storyline, characters with abilities, and the gacha system, Wuthering Waves is somewhat similar to Genshin Impact. Both games also incorporate the freedom of choosing either a male or a female protagonist: Rover for Wuthering Waves and Traveler for Genshin Impact.
In addition, Wuthering Waves and Genshin Impact have similar Elemental powers that influence the characters. For Wuthering Waves, the elements are Fusion, Glacio, Conducto, Aero, Havoc, and Spectra, and for Genshin, they are Hydro, Pyro, Anemo, Cryo, Geo, Dendro, and Electro.

Wuther Waves and Genshin Impact Differences
Although Wuthering Waves draws several inspirations from the MiHoYo creation Genshin Impact, some differences set both games apart. The differences are as follows:
- Storyline – While both games are ARPG gachas, they are completely different in terms of the basic storyline and lore. Wuthering Waves focuses on a post-apocalyptic world where players take on the role of Rover to fight a catastrophe. In contrast, Genshin Impact follows the adventures of a sibling trying to find their twin separated at the very start of the game.
- Mechanisms – Although both games share the same climbing mechanism, with stamina being a big part, Wuthering Waves adds grappling hooks and separate climbing stamina to incorporate something new into the table.
- Party Size – As we know, Genshin Impact has a multiplayer mode where you can invite three different players to your world. Wuthering Waves reduces the number by one, making the party size only three in total instead of the usual four-player adventure.
- Enemy Become Allies – Another completely new concept is Wuthering Waves’ Echoes, which you can collect to use enemies in battle.
