Unlike other RPGs, Last Epoch has a very complicated crafting system that can be hard to get used to especially if you’re a beginner in the game. Crafting in Last Epoch involves upgrading old gear, adding Glyphs, Runes, and other magical items to make your character powerful.

How Does Crafting Work In Last Epoch?
To start crafting in Last Epoch, you need to hit the F key on your keyboard and open up the Forge. This will bring up the crafting menu, which will let you add a modifier to a piece of item to upgrade it to better quality.
Each item has a rarity ranging from Common (white) -> Magic (blue) -> Rare (yellow) -> Unique (orange) -> Set (green) -> Exalted (purple) -> Legendary (red). These items all have their own “Forging Potential” aka crafting potential which can be used for crafting purposes. Higher forging potential means you will be able to modify that item as compared to a low potential one.
To modify each item in the game, you will need Shards, Glyphs, and Runes with different enchants on them. These resources are typically collected from mob drops and in hidden chests spread throughout the game’s map. You also have to make sure you have proper loot filters to collect every item drop without missing any rare resources.
Note: Don’t forget to click the “Transfer Crafting Items” in your inventory to send all the modifiers to the Forge before crafting.
Shards
Shards are crafting components that can store affixes or modifiers so that they can be added to your gear when you open up the Forge. You can also use these shards to upgrade a certain affix on your gear, but each upgrade will cost Forging Potential.
Note: If any affix has Critical Success while upgrading, that means it will add a Tier to your affix. Tiers can be upgraded up to five.

Glyphs
Glyphs act as supporting traits to your item’s runes in Last Epoch. Glyphs can add extra skills to the affixes to make them better. There are a total of 4 Glyphs you can find, and they include:
Glyph Name | Description |
Glyph of Hope | Gives your item a 25% chance of not using any Forging Potential |
Glyph of Chaos | Change a random affix on your item |
Glyph of Order | Finalizes affixes so that a certain affix on your item does not get rerolled |
Glyph of Despair | Gives a chance to seal a chosen affix so that your item may have five affixes instead of four. Forging Potential of the item changes to 0 after using this Glyph. (Click the arrow above the affix to select it) |
Runes
Runes are special collectible resources that can alter the nature of your item and give it a completely new purpose. There are a total of 8 different types of Runes you can find in the game. Here is a list explaining each one:
Rune Name | Description |
Rune of Shattering | Helps break down an item to gather Shards that you might need to collect. |
Rune of Refinement | When you are done crafting an item, you can use the rest of the Forging Potential and use this rune to reroll all the value to get greater rolls. |
Rune of Removal | Removes a random affix on an item. |
Rune of Discovery | Adds a random Affix (Tier 1) to all empty affix slots of the item in the Forge. |
Rune of Shaping | Rerolls the implicit modifiers on an item. Implicit modifiers are usually the top modifier when you move your cursor to highlight the item. |
Rune of Ascendance | Changes your common, magic, and rare items to unique rarity. |
Rune of Research | Changes an experimental affix to a sealed affix and unlocks a new slot for regular modifiers. |
Rune of Shaping | Rerolls an implicit modifier that has a roll range. |
Rune of Creation | Duplicates your item but removes forging potential for both. |

Affixes
Affixes are modifiers already present on the gear that you can remove and upgrade in the game. Affixes appear as Affix Shards which can be added to the weapon or gear of your choice to upgrade it. Affixes can be further divided into two types:
- Prefixes – Prefixes are the affixes that contain Damage Stats, Minions, Potions, and Defense for your item. Prefixes appear on the left of your item in the Forge and have 2 slots.
- Suffixes – Suffixes consist of Status Effects like Buffs, Ailments, Mana, Health, and Resistance and they are usually on the right side with 2 slots.
Once you gather enough items to start crafting in Last Epoch, start experimenting with all these glyphs, runes, and shards to find the perfect weapon/armor to suit your character.
