The White-Robed Elder questline in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers is one of the longest and most important quests in the game. This side quest is spread across several regions and is related to the game’s true ending.
The quest revolves around an old man in white robes who appears mysteriously at various locations, often surrounded by corpses. Players must track him down, assist him, and eventually face him in battle.

How to Start the White-Robed Elder Questline
Your first meeting with the White-Robed Elder takes place on the second-floor balcony at the Shu Sanctum. Speak with him to receive the Plumed Branch.
Keep in mind that it’s important to talk to him here, as it allows him to appear at Doomwillow Beach later. However, even if you miss this encounter, the questline still continues through alternate routes.

All White-Robed Elder Locations and Objectives in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers
Doomwillow Beach
After Shu Sanctum, your next encounter with the White-Robed Elder will be at Doomwillow Beach. From the shrine, take the hill path toward Lu Mansion, then head left to find the elder. After your dialogue ends, he will give you Crystallized Red Mercury.
Cloudspire Outskirts (Optional)
As an optional encounter, you can also find the elder at Cloudspire Outskirts, near a tower close to the shrine. He can be seen standing on a wooden path next to the structure.
However, if you’ve already met him in the cave leading to Mt. Zhenwu, he won’t appear here. Either of these two paths leads to the same quest progression. If you find him here, he gives you another Crystallized Red Mercury.
Hillswatch Cave (Cloudspire)
Next, head to Hillswatch Cave, which is accessible from the Cloudspire region. After entering the mining cave, head to the upper levels. The elder is standing here and will grant you a Brilliant Red Feather after the conversation.

Refugee Camp
After completing the cave section, move on to Battlefield Pass, which leads to the Refugee Camp. On the opposite side of the camp, the White-Robed Elder will ask for your help to fight a demon.
Choosing “Yes” allows you to summon him later during a difficult boss fight. Refusing does not break the questline, but you won’t be able to call him for assistance.
Avian Marsh and Bo Sorcerer Boss Fight
Travel through the Avian Marsh, past the lantern monk and Manna Vase chest. Eventually, you’ll spot the elder near a forest clearing. After speaking with him, continue toward the Bo Sorcerer boss area.
Before entering the arena, unlock the shortcut near the Avian Dwelling Shrine. This boss fight is one of the toughest in the game.
Summoning the Elder
If you agreed to help him earlier, you can use the Bone Whistle to summon the White-Robed Elder. He acts as a tank and helps absorb the Bo Sorcerer’s quick attacks. Defeating the Bo Sorcerer progresses the questline.

Meeting at the Tomb
After the battle, continue along the path past the arena. Cross the tree bridge where bamboo shoots grow. The elder will appear again here, in front of a tombstone. Speak to him to receive the Tigraliz Pendant. After resting at a shrine, he will disappear from this location.
Reaching the Final Phase
To trigger the final step, advance to Chapter 5 and reach Bo Capital. After activating the first shrine, teleport back to Avian Dwelling and return to the tomb. There, you will find the White-Robed Elder again, revealed to be Zhao Yun, a legendary general.
Boss Fight with Zhao Yun
This final battle is a tough one, where Zhao Yun will use deadly grab attacks and fast movements. Be well-prepared with healing items and upgraded equipment before facing him.
