In a recent behind-the-scenes video for Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Ubisoft has revealed their intent in recapturing the feel of the classic AC games with the upcoming title. The deep dive developer video sheds light on the studio’s focus on bringing back the core Assassin’s Creed experience with a renewed emphasis on stealth, assassinations, and parkour mechanics.
Returning to the classic formula with Assassin’s Creed Mirage
By returning to the series’ roots, Ubisoft aims to capture the essence and spirit that made the franchise beloved by fans worldwide. This dedication to honoring the legacy of Assassin’s Creed is evident in the design choices, gameplay mechanics, and visual aesthetics of the upcoming entry.
Mirage introduces a range of parkour mechanics designed to enhance the fluidity of movement. Elevators, vaulting, and a densely packed map encourage creative navigation through the game’s world. The protagonist, Basim, is more agile compared to the ones in recent AC games, making parkour feel smoother and more seamless. Additionally, Ubisoft has included a new mechanic known as the pole vault, further expanding the player’s movement options.
“[We’ve] reworked our enemy AI to improve detection and vanishing loops, making guard behaviors more responsive and readable. New enemy archetypes will also increase the stakes. The marksman can shoot your eagle, the spearman pokes through haystacks, and the horn bearer can call in reinforcements. That’s where your assassin skills come in handy.”
Mirage brings back social stealth. Players will once again be able to blend into crowds and use their surroundings to their advantage. As mentioned, Ubisoft has also expanded the range of animations for stealth kills, ensuring that players have a diverse array of methods to eliminate their targets discreetly. These additions are sure to encourage players to adopt a stealthy approach throughout the game.
The developers also revealed a new visual filter that will be implemented in Assassin’s Creed Mirage. This filter is designed to give the game a look reminiscent of classic AC titles, further amplifying the nostalgic elements and allowing players to relive the essence of earlier games in the franchise.
