Unverified footage purporting to show gameplay from a canceled Call of Duty game that shows futuristic gameplay has surfaced online. It offers a glimpse into a potentially scrapped futuristic entry in the popular franchise. It is interesting to see because we rarely get to witness canceled products.
The leaked video, believed to originate from 2011, showcases an early build of a mission set on the moon. Players take on the role of a character named Walker, navigating a lunar landscape and engaging in zero-gravity combat. The user interface bears resemblance to that of the Modern Warfare trilogy, further fueling speculation about the game’s development timeline.
Details gleaned from the leak suggest this new Call of Duty game aimed to blend traditional boots-on-the-ground gameplay with futuristic elements. Something we’ve seen from Advanced Warfare, which did not do well.
Prototype levels hinted at the inclusion of spacefaring segments and potentially remastered maps from classic Call of Duty titles. The video’s authenticity has been confirmed by industry veteran Brian Bright, lending credence to the leak’s legitimacy. It would have been in place of Ghosts, according to Bright.
Based on how poorly Ghosts was received, it might have been a good idea to go this way instead. However, the Infinite and Advanced Warfare games were not taken well anyway, so I would think this game wouldn’t do well either. Overall, it’s just nice to see where the Call of Duty franchise could have gone.
According to another comment, Future Warfare multiplayer maps were going to be named:
- Whiteout
- Legacy Afghan
- Legacy Crash
- Legacy Outpost
- Legacy Overgrown
- Legacy Terminal
- Apartment
- Bin Laden’s Compound
- Gladiator Assault
- Merc Overgrown Map
- Merc Mode Map
- BENK
- Blank Test MP Level
- JKU
- JPL DOCK
- Milota’s Test Map
There’s nothing else we could get from this leak. Anything regarding Future Warfare’s potential release, story, or mechanics is unavailable due to the unofficial nature of the leak. Still, we hope to see more of the game, just to see where Activision’s mind space was at the time.
