Dave the Diver, the charming RPG, management, and adventure hybrid released in mid-2023, has reached an important milestone – selling over 3 million copies worldwide, merely six months after its release.
The announcement of this amazing feat came from the game’s developer, Mintrocket, who took it to Twitter to thank all the fans for their ‘support and love’, through an artwork oddly reminiscent of The Beatles’ famed Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album cover.
Dave the Diver was launched initially on June 28, 2023, for Microsoft Windows and MacOS, followed by a port for Nintendo Switch that was released in Oct 2023. Shortly after the game’s release in June on Steam, it amassed a whopping concurrent player count of 98,940 on July 3, 2023.
Dave the Diver attracted a lot of attention during The Game Awards 2023, as it was nominated for the Best Indie Game of the Year. Players across the world were opposed to this nomination, claiming that Dave the Diver, a game developed by Mintrocket which is a subsidiary of South Korean gaming conglomerate Nexon, is not at all an ‘indie’ game. However, it ultimately lost the award to Sea of Stars.
Dave the Diver was recently awarded the ‘Best Sit Back and Relax Game Award’ at the 2023 Steam Awards, beating games like Train Sim World 4, Cities Skylines 2, and Potion Craft for the title.
