During The Game Awards, Mathew Maconohey introduced a game that he was a part of that has a concept similar to Interstellar, a movie he acted in that did very well. The game seems to follow the events of a man who traveled for days, but because he went so fast it was a lifetime to his loved one. That’s where the comparisons end in the trailer.
The actual gameplay from the trailer was very impressive. It looks like a mix between Mass Effect: Andromeda and Destiny 2. It has the exploration we’ve seen in Andromeda, but the enemies are like those you’d see in Destiny 2. The action is your typical sci-fi third-person shooter, but it seems really well done.
There was no mention in The Game Awards as to why the title was named Exodus or what the time travel part had to do with the rest of the game. We assume this is something that happens again throughout the story but it could very well just be a way of setting up the story. It looks like the player is stuck in this new future without their romantic interest, and one scene shows them overlooking a town of sorts. So it looks like part of the game is getting used to the new world.
It looks like you have powers in the game, similar to those used by Commander Shepard in the Mass Effect Trilogy. A blade from the hand and other powers in combat were notable in the trailer. There’s also a ship that flies by in a way that makes us think of being dropped off by the Normandy in Mass Effect. We’ll have to wait for more information but Exodus looks like a game with a lot of potential that’s worth keeping an eye on.
