Bleak Faith: Forsaken first launched in March 2023 and got embroiled in controversy over some of its gameplay animation. In several instances, the game looked strikingly similar to Elden Ring. The developers of the indie game ended up removing the assets in question and the controversy died down.
A year later, Archangel Studios is gearing up to launch the Soulslike game on current-gen consoles. Bleak Faith: Forsaken is releasing on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on July 5. The game was originally launched for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Made by a three-person studio, Bleak Faith: Forsaken released to Mixed or Average ratings on Metacritic but currently has Mostly Positive reviews on Steam. Several players lauded the attempt but the consensus was that the product could have been more polished.
On the other hand, Archangel rebuked the plagiarism accusations. While they agreed The developers reportedly used assets bought from Epic Marketplace, and they acknowledged outsourcing not more than 10% of the entire development.
The controversy ended with the indie devs reportedly removing all the questionable assets “out of respect for the original artists and the players”. It remains to be seen whether the current-gen version of the game contains any assets that could rekindle the controversy.
