Nintendo Switch 2 is once again in the news, now rumored to release in the first quarter of 2024. According to a Chinese investment website, Moneydj.com, the sales numbers of Hongzhun, which is a manufacturer of metal cases for consumer electronic products, are expected to increase in the second half of the current fiscal year. The website attributes this spike to Nintendo introducing a new Switch console in Q1 of 2024. The translated section of the report reads,
“… although the overall momentum of game consoles this year is mediocre, in the second half of the year, with the advent of the traditional peak season, the purchase of game consoles is expected to increase compared with the first half of the year, and Nintendo plans to launch the Switch in Q1 next year. Based on this estimate, Hongzhun’s game console assembly business can expand It is hoped that we will start to see the momentum of pulling goods in December this year.”
Although this report doesn’t outright mention the device’s name, it’s safe to assume this might be the Switch 2.
Nintendo Switch 2 might be announced in the coming months
When it comes to new Switch consoles, Nintendo has always played it close to the chest with the official announcement. The original Nintendo Switch was initially released in Q1 of 2017 and Nintendo had just announced its arrival in October 2016.
Now, for the Switch 2, there have been a lot of rumored sightings of the developer kits all over the world. With the addition of this new information, it seems highly possible that an official announcement of the arrival of the new handheld console is highly likely in the coming months.
However, it should be taken with a pinch of salt. Nintendo is notoriously famous for delaying their releases and there has been radio silence about any new gaming consoles from the Japanese giant. At this time, we don’t even know what this new Switch console might be. Is it the next generation of Switch? Is it a variant – like Switch Lite or Switch OLED? Or something else altogether?
With the Switch’s aging hardware, it definitely needs a more powerful iteration.
