All Rockstar Social Club Mentions Scrubbed From Website

Rockstar Social Club seems to have disappeared from Rockstar Game’s official website. As the developer gears up for GTA 6 trailer release, it has completely changed the look and functionality of the official website. Some fans initially thought it to be an error or even an attempt at rebranding. However, after several efforts by players across the world, fans are finally coming to terms with the fact that Rockstar Social Club is, at the moment, completely gone.

It’s truly gone. All the strings have been entirely replaced with ‘Rockstar Games’. Also the screenshot is a cache issue. It’s updated on mobile pic.twitter.com/d0aSbBr67W

Gamers trying to log into the Rockstar Social Club website were instead greeted today by a page displaying the Rockstar Games logo, rather than the Social Club logo. While most of the text and options on the page seem to remain the same, it looks like Rockstar has put in great efforts to remove all mentions of the Social Club. The landing page now displays a similar message, but no logo of the Social Club.

Rockstar Social Club landing page

Rockstar Social Club came to existence in 2008 and the first game to ever use this online multiplayer community-based setup was Rockstar’s Red Dead Redemption. Ever since, the Social Club has become a melting point for Rockstar games’ online players – to share their stats, photos, and achievements, and to correspond. The club reached new levels of popularity after the online versions of Rockstar’s latest installments, GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were launched.

Fans Speculate If Rockstar Social Club Will Return In Revamped Form Or With A Different Moniker

Judging by the efforts the developer has gone to to scrub out Social Club could point towards a host of interesting things. Rockstar Social Club has a diverse and large, yet largely divided fan base. While some considered the space as a safe haven to discuss anything and everything Rockstar, others seemed displeased with its buggy, biased, and at times chaotic presentation. From its UI to its actual functionality, many have questioned lately if it should even exist.

With GTA 6 trailer mere weeks away, many fans have taken this as a sign that Rockstar Games might be looking forward to completely changing their branding and player-facing identity. What exactly are they planning is too soon to say.

The developer has essentially shadow-dropped the changes to its website, with no announcement or player intimation. Many fans believe that Rockstar might try to re-create its Social Club endeavor by re-launching it under Rockstar Games Platform.

Fans Divided Over Disappearance Of Rockstar Social Club

Hardcore GTA Online and Red Dead Online players are understandably shocked by this development. For many, Rockstar Social Club held the data that reflected the hours and hours of grinding and the results it yielded. Some fans are worried about losing their data and with it, their hard-earned achievements. However, it doesn’t seem likely that Rockstar Games will aggravate their larger than 200 million playerbase. Whatever the next move is, it’s highly likely that it will feature backward compatibility.

Some mentions of Rockstar Social Club remain for the time being, including the in-game option to access the social club, in the main menu of RDR2. However, considering the lengths Rockstar has gone to, it seems highly possible that it will release an update to scrub out the social club options from its currently playable games.

Shame our next update will just be to remove it from the pause menu.

Parting Thoughts

It’s highly unlikely that Rockstar will just shut down Social Club without a proper replacement. As many believe, it’s more plausible that Rockstar is gearing up to launch a brand new, hopefully more feasible and safer social/community club ahead of GTA 6.

While many cherished the Rockstar Social Club, it had its fair share of issues. From various bugs, crashes, hacks, and data issues, to some players blaming the developers for indirectly participating in activities, the Social Club certainly is in dire need of a complete overhaul.

Judging by the timing, it might be possible that Rockstar Games might advertise or announce the Social Club’s replacement (or even announce the complete overhaul of the Rockstar Games Platform) alongside the GTA 6 trailer release.
