During the Meta Quest Gaming Showcase 2023 today, a wide range of new VR games for the Meta Quest platform were announced. Among the highly anticipated titles, Stranger Things VR stood out as a game fans have been eagerly awaiting.
For those of you who have not followed the game’s development, Stranger Things VR offers a unique twist. Rather than assuming the role of Eleven and utilizing her powers to battle the malevolent forces in Hawkins, players are cast as Vecna. Equipped with telekinetic and telepathic abilities, the objective is to defeat monsters and bring about the destruction of the residents of Hawkins who stand in Vecna’s way.
The gameplay trailer provided a detailed look at the game’s animated art style. We can see how this deliberate choice takes into account the processing constraints of the Quest 2 and works around to bring to life the surreal environment associated with the show. If you haven’t yet watched up to Season 4 of Stranger Things, you should before you get your hands on the game as it builds upon the narrative of the show up until that point.
Stranger Things VR delves into the transformation of Henry Creel into Vecna, offering glimpses of Henry’s past at the Hawkins Lab and his exploration of the interconnected hive mind and alternate realities. In addition to using telekinetic abilities to manipulate and defeat opponents, players have the ability to invade the dreams and memories of familiar characters from the show, such as Will Byers and Billy Hargrove, to manipulate them into carrying out Vecna’s commands. The game will also let you open and close portals between worlds, although that approaches really dangerous territory for even Vecna.
Stranger Things VR is currently available for pre-order at a price of $29.99 and is scheduled for release in the upcoming fall season.
