Striking Distance Studios, the studio behind the 2022 sci-fi horror The Callisto Protocol, is reportedly working on a multiplayer game. Spotted by ResetEra user Fiery Phoenix, this revelation comes from the studio’s job listing on its website.
The careers section of Striking Distance Studios’ website currently lists several multiplayer-focused developer roles that they are hiring for. The said roles include:
- Multiplayer Core Engineer
- Multiplayer Gameplay Engineer
- Online Backend Engineer
- Lead Multiplayer Designer
The San Francisco-based studio’s first game The Callisto Protocol was an exclusively singleplayer sci-fi horror experience. Notably, the game was marketed as a spiritual successor of Dead Space with Glen Schofield as co-lead. However, following The Callisto Protocol’s lower-than-anticipated sales numbers, 32 employees faced layoffs and Schofield left the company in September 2023.
Striking Distance Studios is owned by Krafton. Recently, we reported another Krafton-owned developer, Unknown Worlds Entertainment, pivoting to multiplayer with their upcoming Subnautica sequel. While we are yet to know which game Striking Distance is currently working on, it seems certain that the studio is going in the same direction.
