When it comes to online gaming, there is no place safer than Roblox. While the platform’s limitless and diverse content attract scores of adult gamers, it is a place that is constantly flocked by a juvenile audience. Roblox’s censor system and various filters are designed to ensure that their platform remains a haven for their younger users. Still, the platform offers some serious games, especially in the horror genre, that will make hardcore veterans wish Roblox would go easy on them.
Here’s a list of Roblox horror games that will make you abandon the habit of gaming after sundown.
Alone in a Dark House
This game is eponymous with the Infogrames classic survival horror franchise and is just as scary. Exploration is the core game mechanic here, and if you dive in thinking “What’s the worst that could happen?” the game is going to make your feel sorry. You play as a private investigator sent in to investigate an abandoned house.
As you explore the eerie silent hallways, you uncover information about the house’s former inhabitants, and you soon realize that the title of the game was misleading.
Mimic
Mimic is the most whole-hearted effort on Roblox which aims to scare players out of their pants. This horror title is based on the Japanese Yokai folklore and involves four different stories. The game has a unique style of storytelling with some engaging art that brings the folk tales to life.
While heavily relying on story to produce the fear element, Mimic also has plenty of jump scares and environmental noises to creep you out. It is recommended that you play this with friends and make use of the multiplayer option for an experience that doesn’t emotionally scar you for life.
JUDY
Whoever claims Roblox horror games are just for kids hasn’t played Judy. This game revolves around the disappearance of a Hollywood star named Judy. You are tasked with finding the missing star by uncovering clues and solving puzzles. The investigation takes you through a 70s theme park, an abandoned manor, and a final showdown at the seashore. Of course, the entire investigation becomes a horrendous affair with the inclusion of countless monsters which can crawl out of nowhere. The game’s mature elements make it one of the most serious horror titles on Roblox.
Apeirophobia
While still in pre-alpha, Apeirophobia already has Roblox players gripped by fear. The game’s title is a phobia of infinity, and that is exactly what this horror game induces. Inspired by backroom-style titles, Apeirophobia expects players to explore endless backrooms and solve puzzles as they dodge monsters that lurk in the darkness. While rated for ages 9 and above, this title is no walk in the park especially at night.
It Lurks
If your parents are out of town and you feel that Macaulay Culkin has nothing on you, then It Lurks is the game to prove it. The game starts like your typical home alone experience, but you’ll soon find that there is something far viler than a couple of whimsical kidnappers lurking in the dark. As you dodge jump scare after jump scare, you uncover more about what exactly lurks out there.
Finders Keepers
Paranormal Investigators are drawn to haunted houses like flies are to bug zappers. The result often is also quite the same, but you only get fried mentally over a long and agonizing period of time. Finders Keeper brings all the joys of solving a missing case with all the horrors of encountering a spirit that is hell-bent on scaring you out of your skin. If the concept interests you, this is one of the must-try Roblox horror games out there.
Asylum
The word Asylum is associated with a harrowing experience no matter where it is used. So, it is natural that this Roblox title is one of the scariest on the platform. In this game, you are tasked with exploring an abandoned asylum and uncover it secrets. This is easier said than done since this game doesn’t believe in handholding, so you are on your own in figuring out what horrors haunt this institution.
Since Roblox knows most of you’ll probably play this at night, they also added a multiplayer so they don’t get sued for involuntary manslaughter by means of fear. Needless to say, Asylum can give Konami a run for its money.
Dead Silence
The Roblox page for Dead Silence describes it as the “#1 Scariest Game on Roblox”. Those who have played the game will agree that they weren’t lying.
Dead Silence is based on the 2007 feature film of the same name and incorporates a similar environment. The game revolves around investigating the murder of ventriloquist Mary Shaw who purportedly haunts the town. The production values of this game complement its setting quite well and make up for the one-dimensional gameplay. Dead Silence also incorporates some familiar and popular mechanics from famous horror games which are well executed.
Geisha
The Japanese love horror in any shape or form they can imagine, so it is no surprise that this Roblox horror game features the popular urban legend of Teke Teke, the vengeful spirit of a Japanese schoolgirl. The title expects you to solve puzzles to find your missing family while the spirit haunts you every step of the way. Featuring some eerie sounds and a haunting atmosphere, Geisha is one of the creepiest Roblox horror games that will give you sleepless nights.
Doors
Doors is one of the best produced horror games on Roblox. The game is well-designed and features some incredible elements that are uncommon on the platform.
Doors combines aspects of survival horror with puzzle solving to create an exciting environment that keeps you at the edge of your seat. The game builds up a lot of suspense for each monster you encounter as you progress through a story that expects you to figure everything out. So, contrary to what a certain American Poet might suggest with these doors, it is better not to turn out the lights.
Kampong
Kampong is a short but terrifying experience that defines the child-friendly Roblox as a worthy platform for horror games as well. This game features horror elements derived from Islamic folklore which includes a liberal use of the Jinn. Kampong has three chapters revolving around protagonist Hakim, who has some mystical powers which he has to use to save certain characters from the mythical horrors.
The Mirror
The Mirror is a horror title based on Eisoptrophobia. A mirror is the primary gameplay mechanic in this title, and player characters are expected to interact with it to progress. You must rely on the reflection you see in the mirror to find clues and solve puzzles. The catch, of course, is that the images you’ll see may not always be to your liking and can creep you out for days.
It goes without saying that those of you who already suffer from Eisoptrophobia are bound to have the wildest horror experience of all. This one is one of the more niche Roblox horror games.
Kalamkopiphobia
If you think mazes, jump scares and horror monsters are downright ‘corny’, here is a title that can change your mind. Set across interlinking hallways and rooms that are designed like a maze, this is a survival game where you are constantly stalked by monsters. The walls are covered with cornfield wallpapers to make the maze more confusing. This is a game where your goal is to run and hide from monsters that range from adorable looking to absolutely terrifying.
According to the Roblox community, Kalamkopiphobia apparently means a fear of corns. But I wouldn’t bank on this information for the next class test. Although, the fear of getting lost in unfamiliar spaces like corn mazes is called Mazeophobia (nerd alert!).
Elmira
Elmira is yet another one of those situations where you wake up and find out that everyone’s gone and you’re the only one left to fend off some spooks. Only this time it is a school bus, and you have to go looking for your classmates.
If the toils of bearing your schoolmates in school and on the bus weren’t enough to stress you out, you now have to go looking for them in an abandoned hospital. Of course, you will soon find that it is not just your friends who might inhabit this derelict facility. If you think you are too old to be scared by video games, then an Elmira playthrough at night is sure put any doubts to rest.
