Path of Exile 2 was a much-anticipated sequel to Path of Exile 1, released back in 2013 by Grinding Gear Games. The same developer and publisher have now crafted a sequel that has introduced many changes to the core of the game to make it feel fresh for those who have played the first one.
What is Path of Exile 2?
Path of Exile 2 takes place in Wareclast, 20 years after the events unfolded in Path of Exile 1. It’s an Isometric ARPG developed by Grinding Gear Games, the devs behind Path of Exile 1. The sequel features a long campaign of six acts, highly customized gameplay, multi-layer crafting, gear hunting, and complex endgame.
Path of Exile 2’s update release schedule follows the footsteps of Path of Exile 1. The seasonal league structure is the core of the Path of Exile experience; every league adds new economics, bosses, more maps, and many more to make the content feel new for returning and new players. Currently, the new league, Return of the Ancients, rejuvenated the community of POE 2 as the current Steam player count sits at over 100k players daily, despite being in Early Access.
A new league in POE adds new unique gear sets, gems, gameplay variety, new missions, new bosses, and a plethora of options to tune your build variety to break the game. Another major highlight of Path of Exile 2 lies in its community; they are active and will help you out on anything you desire, from trading special items to helping you clear bosses on tougher maps on Atlas.
Do You Need to have played Path of Exile 1 before?
Path of Exile 1 takes place in the same world as Path of Exile 2, while both games have similar appearances, but core gameplay is far different from each other. POE 2 features a souls-like gameplay experience; every action needs to be deliberate and slow, as it brings up the W/S/A/D controls for more precise controls. Path of Exile 1 is the polar opposite, as it is more fast-paced in combat with support for only mouse-only movements; the focus of the endgame content is all about faster map clears.
If you want to care about the lore of Path of Exile, then getting your hands on the first game would be the best idea to approach the series. From a gameplay perspective, Path of Exile 2 is a more beginner-friendly experience compared to the first game, where most of the game mechanics are hidden in the dark without any explanation. One of the reasons for the complexity, POE 1 has a decade’s worth of content compared to POE 2, which has only been out for two years. The content available for POE 1 is overwhelming and gigantic compared to the sequel.
