Palworld 1.0 touched an active player count of 961,867 on Sunday and crossed Elden Ring’s numbers of 953,426. Of course, different games and genres, but SteamDB active player count does remain a comparison tool to assess player and community interest in a game, and in that at least, Palworld looks to have crossed a pretty high standard.
Palworld has been available for quite some time in EA – almost 2.5 years, as it was first released back in Jan 2024 for PC and Xbox consoles, with the PlayStation version rolling out in September of the same year. While it has been fighting lawsuits, those now look to be coming to an end, with Nintendo not expected to get any major breakthroughs in its fight against PocketPair; after the devs took early action to limit the scope of the patent infringement lawsuit.

In any case, have not stopped the gaming community from flocking to this game, with the game sitting at a 93.44% rating after a massive 444k reviews on SteamDB. This has, obviously, been bolstered by the full 1.0 release on July 10 this year – with a pretty comprehensive set of additions and tweaks to the game with new Pals, areas and other mechanics.
The game features an addictive loop of exploring, collecting resources, fighting and capturing Pals, upgrading your base to get even better material and equipment to then make exploration and collection of higher upgrade materials and Pals possible. We at GamesHorizon have also taken to the game since it came out in EA, and have built a library of guides for Palworld over the past 10 days for new and returning players alike.
And closing off with the comparison to Elden Ring – that game has pretty much set the reference for popularity and has since become a landmark in video game history – and hence, even to be compared, let alone surpass, on some aspect against such a game, is an achievement that I am sure the developers of Palworld would be proud of.
