As you travel through Forgotten Realms and reach the Mountain Pass in Baldur’s Gate 3, Lady Esther is a merchant NPC you will stumble upon. As you’d soon find out, besides being a merchant, she’s also a quest-giver.
Her quest is simple: go to the monastery nearby and get her the Githyanki Egg. While this may seem like a friendly old woman with an easy task, things can go south depending if you choose to keep that egg or give it to her as she requested.
Should you give Lady Esther the Githyanki Egg in Baldur’s Gate 3?
When you meet Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3 at the Mountain Pass, she will tell you that she wanted to buy a Githyanki Egg but was only met with attacks. She needs them because the Society of Brilliance tasked her with getting one so that they can birth and train a Githyanki with their traditions.
That is where you come in, she requests you to get the Egg instead for a hefty reward. With a good dice roll for Persuasion, you can even get her to pay upfront.
What happens if you keep the Githyanki Egg from Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you decide to not give the Githyanki Egg to Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3 after stealing it, she will not appreciate that and immediately enter into combat with you in order to get the Egg. This is not recommended as it isn’t the best option as it is a difficult fight since she has the ability to turn invisible.
If you really do want to fight her and keep the egg as well, you should instead tell her that you are still in the process of getting the Egg and then ambush her with a sudden attack. Having a party member with Volo’s Ersatz Eye will also make the fight easier since it will allow you to see her even when she is invisible.
What happens if you give the Githyanki Egg to Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Giving the Githyanki Egg to Lady Esther after stealing it from the Creche Hatchary will result in you being awarded 258 Gold. However, doing so will result in her shop being closed down for good as she will leave. So, it might be a good choice to peruse the items in her shop before doing so and buying any valuable item that you might need.
This choice will also lead to Lady Esther actually taking the Egg to the Society of Brilliance, allowing them to have a Githyanki raised in their traditions later on in the game.
What happens if you give Owlbear Egg to Lady Esther in Baldur’s Gate 3?
Since Lady Esther doesn’t actually know what a Githyanki Egg looks like, you can deceive her by giving her an Owlbear Egg. But, this will result in a bad outcome for her in the future when the Society of Brilliance finds out it isn’t a Githyanki Egg.
