Insomniac’s latest release seems to have broken all the records. With over 2.5 million downloads within 24 hours since its release on October 20, 2023, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has officially become the fastest selling game ever for PlayStation. This record was previously held by another PlayStation-exclusive game, God of War: Ragnarok.
God of War: Ragnarok had achieved the title of fastest selling PS game by surpassing over 5.1 million copies sold within the first week of the game’s release. However, despite being a PS5 exclusive title, Spider-Man 2 has already covered half the field in a mere 24-hour window. It’s safe say to say that the superhero game is set to surpass the 5.1 million mark well before October 27, i.e., one week since release.
Spider-Man 2 has overtaken many popular gaming series and titles on PlayStation, surpassing initial sales numbers of any Uncharted titles, God of War titles, or even one of the highest grossing gaming titles of all time, The Last of Us Part I & II. The release of Spider-Man 2 was also the biggest PS5 boxed launch events of all time, aggregating 5% more than the last recorded title – Hogwarts Legacy’s PS5 release.
