Ed Boon, the co-creator of the massively popular PvP fighting game series Mortal Kombat, recently shared a mysterious teaser through his Twitter account, hinting at a Mortal Kombat reboot. The tweet came with the caption ‘Does Anyone Know What Time is it?’ along with a Mortal Kombat hashtag.
Soon after, a popular gaming leakster, billbil-kun, shared the title of the upcoming game- Mortal Kombat 1. He claims that the title will be featured on next-gen consoles, i.e. PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, as well as Nintendo Switch. He has also made predictions about the game’s price. However, when asked by followers about the source, he has maintained silence.
According to billbil-kun, the title will feature the following editions –
- The Standard edition is priced at $69.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, while the Nintendo Switch version will cost $59.99.
- The Premium edition will cost $109.99.
- The Kollector’s edition will cost $249.99 on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is supposed to be a physical-only edition and will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but not on Nintendo Switch.

According to rumors, the new title is anticipated to be released in September 2023. There also have been rumors of NetherRealm introducing new characters in the game, including Peacemaker from DC Universe, as well as The Homelander from The Boys comic and TV series. NetherRealm has a long history of featuring characters from different universes, such as Kratos from God of War, Eddie from Nightmare on Elm Street, and Predator, Alien, and The Terminator from self-titled movies.

The last game in the series, Mortal Kombat 11, heavily featured elements of time travel, which corroborates the theory of the new game being the series reboot. The rumor has also shed a completely different light on a previously released teaser of a new Mortal Kombat game, which players thought would be the next installment in the series- Mortal Kombat 12.
