Creator of the Mortal Kombat series, Ed Boon, has recently posted a mysterious tweet that indicates an announcement for Mortal Kombat 1, the upcoming game in the series.
After the creator tweeted “This week should be fun” with a telltale dragon emoji, fans have been over the moon, speculating what they will be gaining this week- a trailer, a launch date, a teaser.
UPDATE: Mortal Kombat 1 trailer rumored to be releasing on May 18. Speculations suggest a gameplay trailer might be dropped during the PlayStation Showcase 2023.
Furthermore, Mortal Kombat 1 creator has stylized his tweet in a L shape, giving the fans even more fuel to speculate. Some believe this to indicate clock hands, keeping up with the last two reveals that featured grains of sand in an hourglass in the first one and a clock in the other one.

Mortal Kombat 1 vs Mortal Kombat 12: The debate Kontinues
While there have been significant rumors about the new title being a reboot, dubbed Mortal Kombat 1, many believe that the game will be Mortal Kombat 12.
The last entry in the series relied heavily on the themes of time travel and presence of different dimensions. Some fans believe that the Mortal Kombat 1 will be a reboot, based on Liu Kang’s ending, i.e., the creation of the Fire God’s universe in mortal Kombat XI. Others believe that Mortal Kombat 1 will be a complete reboot, with a brand new, unrelated storyline.
There have been some credible leaks regarding Mortal Kombat 1, such as some guest characters that are supposed to appear in the new game. These include Conan the Barbarian, Homelander from The Boys, and Peacemaker from DC Universe. Ed Boon’s recent tweet has made fans impatient, and since we are already halfway through this week, it shouldn’t be long before we have some concrete and official information about NetherRealm’s new title.
