Square Enix Studio has announced the release of Final Fantasy 16 in 2023, 7 years since the last Final Fantasy title came out. The latest instalment in the series will be officially launched on June 22, 2023, exclusively for PlayStation 5.
The developers at Square Enix have confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 will eventually be released on other platforms too. Although there is no official confirmation yet regarding the post-launch availability, exclusive deals typically last a minimum of six months. That being said, we can expect the game to launch for other platforms around the first quarter of 2024.
Final Fantasy 16 gameplay & plot
The game’s plot centers around a conflict among the six nations of Valisthea. The protagonist, Clive Rosfield, embarks on a perilous quest for revenge after witnessing the destruction of his homeland. Players can look forward to an action-packed combat system that combines melee and magic attacks as Clive confronts the rival nations of Valisthea.
In this installment, enemies have the ability to summon fearsome monsters known as Eikons, which require human hosts. These Eikons will serve as challenging bosses throughout the game.
Players can experience the journey in either “Story” or “Normal” mode, with each offering distinct gameplay experiences. The Normal mode provides an increased challenge tailored for experienced Final Fantasy players seeking a greater test of their skills. Additionally, the New Game + feature allows players to start a fresh campaign with heightened difficulty while retaining their hard-earned stats and equipment from the previous playthrough.
Final Fantasy 16 pre-order
As players prepare to embark on a new journey in the realm of Valisthea, they should note that pre-ordering the game gives them a few extra perks.
Preorder bonuses
Preorder bonuses for Final Fantasy 16 consist of three different in-game items, but acquiring them depends on both your choice of edition and the retailer from which you preorder. The Cat Sith Charm, which boosts the rate at which players gain Gil (the in-game currency), and the Braveheart weapon are widely available across retailers and editions. However, the Scholar’s Spectacles, which increase XP gain, are exclusively offered with digital preorders of the game.
Final Fantasy 16 offers three distinct editions, each with its own set of bonuses. Let’s take a closer look at the editions and the preorder bonuses they include:
Standard Edition ($70)
The Standard Edition is the base version of the game and does not include any preorder bonuses unless players are buying the game from Best Buy, Target, or GameStop.
Players receive a free Steelbook case if they pre-order the game from Best Buy, and a $10 gift card is given to players who preorder the game from Target. Those who plan on pre-ordering the game on GameStop will get six Realms of Valisthea patches as a pre-order bonus. For players seeking the most affordable option, the Standard Edition is the way to go.
Deluxe Edition ($100)
For an additional $30, players can upgrade to the Deluxe Edition and enjoy enticing extras. In addition to the base game and the general preorder bonuses, the Deluxe Edition offers a cloth world map of Valisthea and the Special Clive Rosfield steelbook case. It’s important to note that this steelbook case differs from the one provided by Best Buy. Therefore, preordering from both Best Buy and another retailer allows players to own two distinct steelbooks.
Collector’s Edition ($350)
The Collector’s Edition is the ultimate package for devoted fans willing to invest more in their Final Fantasy 16 experience. Priced at $350, this edition offers an array of incredible collectibles, in addition to the preorder bonuses. The Collector’s Edition will grant players the following bonuses:
- Final Fantasy 16 base game
- Premium Statue – Phoenix vs Ifrit
- Metal Eikon pin collection
- Special Clive Rosfield steelbook case
- Cloth world map of Valisthea
- Bonus in-game weapon: Blood Sword
- Digital mini artbook
