With a PlayStation Showcase highlighting the biggest and best games coming to the PS5 soon, Sony has begun what is sure to be an exciting few weeks for game announcements. Things got even more exciting when we got to see some of the exciting titles that will be released on its newest virtual reality platform, PS VR2.
Let’s take a closer look at these titles.
Resident Evil 4: VR Mode
We’ve lived through Resident Evil 4’s terrifying world many times on different consoles. With the 2023 PS Showcase, however, we got an in-depth look at this world from the eyes of Leon, wielding a knife and shooting through hordes of spooky zombies, courtesy to the impending VR Mode.
This gives the game a first-person action twist and makes the hardware’s capabilities shine. It’s one thing to witness jumpscares in VR games, but it’s a whole new level to be in the middle of infuriating hordes of flesh-eaters amid a creepy town.
Arizona Sunshine 2
One of the funniest reveals of the Showcase has you face off against swarms of zombies, but this time things are a bit different. You’ve got Buddy – a somewhat friendly dog who’s as ready as you are to tear apart walking corpses.
Some of the classics from the first game remain – fan-favorite weaponry, including shotguns, machetes, and flamethrowers to add to your arsenal. The game is coming to PSVR2 later this year.
Five Nights at Freddy’s Help Wanted 2
The first Help Wanted game featured events and characters from the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, which was released in 2019 for VR and then for conventional consoles. Although later iterations have incorporated increasingly complex mechanics and take on the theme, the main series of Five Nights games typically feature players surviving five nights working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria while several killer animatronics try to sneak into the security room and murder the player.
Help Wanted 2 promises a fresh batch of spooky settings, minigames, a compelling narrative, and animatronics. Quick and accurate completion of minigames is required, and failing to do so will have extremely harsh repercussions.
The game will release later this year.
Crossfire: Sierra Squad
There was some hype around this arcade-FPS, and now we got to see some polish and variety to its gameplay. With your team, the Sierra Squad, you take on the role of a paramilitary unit’s commander as you navigate 13 missions.
Horde, co-op, and single-player modes are all included in the VR game. Before engaging in combat, you can test 39 different weapons in the firing range.
Synapse
Synapse was one of the more fascinating and mind-bending entries to the list. The new game has you step into someone else’s subconscious, giving you supernatural abilities to make the best of your situation.
You’ll battle with both hands: With the help of telekinetic skills in one hand, you may launch foes through the air while firing weapons with the other.
This new game is in the works by developers of Fracked, Phantom: Covert Ops, and Far Cry VR: Dive into Insanity. The game is coming to PSVR 2 on July 4, 2023.
Beat Saber
Beat Saber grew to its success with some genuinely clever mechanics – slashing through musical blocks that sync up the soundtrack you’re engaging with. A new addition to this experience was showcased: Queen’s songs.
The cult band’s eleven songs are part of the new music pack with the superhit game, which is now available for Playstation VR 2. The new Beat Saber soundtrack includes:
- Another One Bites the Dust
- We Are The Champions
- Stone Cold Crazy
- Don’t Stop Me Now
- Killer Queen
- Somebody to Love
- Crazy Little Thing Called Love
- One Vision
- Bohemian Rhapsody
- I Want It All
- We Will Rock You
Other VR systems where Beat Sabre is accessible will also get the music pack.
Beat Sabre for Playstation VR owners who have already paid for it will get the PSVR 2 upgrade for nothing. Additionally, paid-for DLC will be freely transferred.
