Ancient Ore Armor, no doubt, is the best armor in the Gothic 1 Remake. Commonly, you will encounter the armor late into the game, but there is a way to grab the Ancient Ore Armor as early as Chapter 1. The armor will not be part of some quest or NPC drop; we will need to get the armor the hardest way in the game. This guide will feature a quick route to get the Ancient Ore Armor in Gothic 1 Remake.
How to Obtain Ancient Ore Armor
The Ancient Ore Armor is locked inside a chest that requires a Master Key to unlock. The chest is in Gomez’s room in the Old Camp, on the upper floor of the Castle. First, head to the Castle area in the Old Camp. Enter the Castle, turn left, and keep moving forward, and you will find yourself in the Throne Room. Here you will find a bunch of NPCs, sprawling around the room.
Defeat Gomez
We must defeat Gomez to grab Gomez’s Key and Gomez’s Master Key; both can be looted from his body after defeating him. The question then moves to how to defeat Gomez in the game.
- You will spot Gomez sitting on the throne in the throne room in the castle, and you will have Scar and Arto right in front of Gomez. So if you try to hit Gomez while in the throne room, you will get attacked by every NPC in the room.
Note: I highly advise not hitting Gomez in the Throne Room. If you didn’t kill Scar and Arto, hitting Gomez will also make them join the fight, making the fight ridiculously harder.
- The best way to defeat Gomez is at midnight, right around 11:00 PM. Here, Gomez will get off the throne and will go back to the upper floor. It’s the perfect time to hit him while he is alone. Make sure he leaves the throne room before you start to carry out the devious plan.
Tip: Do note that you can delay Gomez’s movements by entering a conversation with him; this will impact the game world.
Gomez will hit hard; one wrong move, and you can expect death in the next scene. That’s why I will highly recommend saving constantly so you can load the game quickly and get back into the game. Once Gomez is defeated, you will get +1500 XP/ Inno’s Rage/ Master Keys/ Amulet of Might/ Gomez’s key/ and Gomez’s Master Key.
Loot The Chests inside Gomez’s Room
Now that we have both Gomez’s key and Gomez’s Master Key, it’s time to open up some treasure chests. Now switch the timer to daytime, which will make the upper floor of the throne room less crowded. Once you climb the stairs to the upper floor, the door to the left is Gomez’s room. You can open the door by interacting with it with a Master key/ Lockpick/ or waiting for Velaya to open the door for us.
Note: Velaya NPC will open the door to Gomez’s room around 9:00 AM. If you are facing any sort of bug while opening Gomez’s door in the game, you can always wait for her to open the door to the treasure room.
Once you are in Gomez’s room, loot both treasure chests by his bed, one on the left and the other next to the bed. The chest on the left side of the bed will give you the Ancient Ore Armor.

The armor will state that the ore provides unmatched protection. If you take a look at the stat details, you can see that it is the case. This can further be upgraded as well, to get the Improved Ore Armor in Gothic 1 Remake.
