Heartopia’s Oceanbound update lets you explore a new underwater map. Over here, you can speak to the new NPCs and pick up unique hobby quests to learn more about Whalefall Canyon. Early in the update, you are tasked with cleaning up the ocean floor for Oliver, and there are several parts to this quest.
This will also help you learn more about the hobby of Ocean Cleanup and restore the ocean to its former glory. But first, you need access to the new Whalefall Canyon area. This guide will cover how to unlock the new area, where to pick up this quest, and all steps to complete it quickly and unlock the Ocean Cleanup hobby.
How to Access Whalefall Canyon in Heartopia

Getting to Whalefall Canyon is quite easy. After updating the game, check your quest log to find the new To Whalefall Canyon quest. If you haven’t unlocked this quest yet, keep logging in every day and complete any pending questlines until you get a call from Atara. Once you have this quest in your quest log, I recommend selecting the Track Quest option to find the quest objectives quickly.
After that, your next quest objective is to head to Whalefall Canyon Camp. Check your map to find a new quest marker and make your way to Whale Sea at the base of Whale Mountain. You will spot a new portal on the beach, and you can use this to head into the Whalefall Canyon Camp and unlock the underwater area.
How to Complete the Ocean Cleanup Quest

After heading down into the ocean, you can speak to all the members in the Marine Archaeology Team. This will help level up the Whalefall Canyon XP from the Whalefall Canyon menu. You can access this menu by clicking on the clamshell icon in the top right corner. Leveling up will unlock new quests, like the Ocean Cleanup quest from Rory and Oliver.
You will find both NPCs near the Marine Archaeology camp. After speaking to them, you will get the Ocean Purifier. Check the left side of the screen to find your first quest objective, which is to clean up the pollutants around the ocean floor. You will find black pollution balls sticking to various objects around the ocean, and you will automatically get a tracker to find all the polluted items for the quest.
How to Use the Ocean Purifier

Equip the Ocean Purifier from the equipment wheel, which you will get automatically as you start the quest. Then, just aim and press the interact button on the black pollution to get rid of it. Removing pollution is similar to fishing; sometimes you need to wait a while before you can use the purifier device.
If the crosshairs turn red, then your device has overheated, and you need to wait a few seconds before the crosshair turns green again to use it. There are different pollution types that require different elimination methods, and we will have a look at them all below.
All Pollution Types

To find more polluted areas, check your map to find sad red faces and make your way over there. There are three main types of pollutants you will come across. Some pollutants will cover the object in a spinning vortex, and to get rid of them, you need to wait for an opening to occur. You can then use the purifier normally to get rid of it.
Another type of pollution will have red cracks on them, and they will shatter into smaller pieces when the device is used on them. So it’s double the work to clean up all the smaller debris along with the larger chunks.
And finally, you will find armored pollutants that require more effort to break them apart. Continue to use the purifier until it cracks away, then clear the main pollutant to restore the area.
Clear Out the Pollution on Yourself

As the final task rolls by, you need to cleanse yourself of the pollution. There are three ways to do that. The easiest method is to find Cleaning Anemones and stand on them to clean yourself. Again, this area will be marked on the map, and a Cleaning Anemone is right next to the camp. Stand right in the middle of the anemone for a while until the quest objective checks off.
If you are playing multiplayer, you can ask someone to hose you down with the Cleansing Device. You can also just go home and take a bath. After completing that task, speak to Oliver one last time, then speak to Rory to get the Pearl Oyster Material Pack reward and unlock the Ocean Cleanup hobby.
You can visit the ocean floor and continue to clear out all the debris and pollution anytime. Keep checking the map for polluted areas and continue to work on cleaning them up. This is a great way to earn XP in Whalefall Canyon. Plus, you can also find rare trinkets like certain seashells this way, which can be turned into Collection Points to buy all the new ocean-themed furniture.
